Congrats on the new addition. Do you have a name picked out?
January 12, 2007 at 7:47 pm #527796We haven’t named it yet. I’d like to know what gender it is first! After the clawing thing, I didn’t want to try and turn it over to check. (It wasn’t just the usual warning swipe, he was bleeing quite a bit.)
January 12, 2007 at 7:54 pm #527797Congrats, SPark! This kitty isn’t your first pet, is it? I hope she doesn’t ruin your carpets…
January 12, 2007 at 8:05 pm #527798No, I have another cat already. Who sits outside the bedroom door and sniffsniffsniffs at this cat. But since this is a stray, they can’t meet until the new cat has a clean bill of health. I don’t want my Kali to catch something nasty from this new one. So this cat is shut in and Kali is shut out.
January 12, 2007 at 8:07 pm #527799I hope they get along fine! Good for the new kitty that you already have cat experience.
January 12, 2007 at 11:31 pm #527800Got back from the vet! New kitty is a she, and she hasn’t got any horrible diseases, just fleas. We have flea stuff, so we can take care of that. I’m still keeping the cats separate, but I let Kali sniff at the new cat’s carrier when I brought her back in. They both hissed. It’s probably going to take a while for them to get used to each other, and I don’t want to let them actually in together until they’re both more relaxed.
January 13, 2007 at 12:23 am #527801Congrats – I’m glad she has no horrible disease! I take it she’s not pregnant? Or could the vet tell if she was spayed or not?
January 13, 2007 at 1:55 am #527802She’s not pregnant. The vet says he can’t be 100% sure, but it looks like she was never spayed. So I’ll have to get that taken care of.
January 13, 2007 at 2:28 am #527803I had 3 Kiara my female is the oldest and 2 males Kovu and Simba. I found Nala in my apt complex and brought her inside and the 2 males watched over her and both had to know where she was every second. She and Kiara hissed at eachouther every time they passed eachother. Moving in to that apt Kiara also had issues because it was the first time she had moved. It took Kiara about a week to get used to a new place but with my last move she was fine. The last move turned Nala into PSYCHO kitty. She was in her carrier on her back kicking up at the top to get it to open so she could escape. I had to put her in the bathroom to run around It was the strangest thing I had ever seen any of my cats do. Once they all got to the new place they had a ball because there was a lot more room for them to run around.
I’m sure it’s just an adjustment period for her. She will come around in a couple days. Just give her LOTS of love so she knows she is home.
Congrats on your new additionJanuary 13, 2007 at 3:14 am #527804She didn’t bite him, did she? If she did, have him watch it very closely. You can get lots of nasty stuff from cat bites. I have a friend that almost lost a finger to a cat bite. Not trying to scare you or anything, I just want to make sure you are aware.
January 13, 2007 at 3:17 am #527805She did bite, but he went and immediately disinfected it very thoroughly, so it should be fine.
January 13, 2007 at 3:23 am #527806Oh good… I tend to forget these things until someone says something, but it triggers an automatic response now, since my friend went thru what she did.
January 13, 2007 at 3:32 am #527807Yeah, I can imagine that would make an impression.
January 13, 2007 at 7:59 am #527808Like Nam and Dragon, I’ve got two cats; one happy and freindly the other scared and tense all the time. I would talk to your new kitty a lot so she knows your voice, leave food for her where she can find it easily and ignore her for maybe the first month. That way she can come to you when she’s ready and check you out, without her feeling like you’re forcing yourself on her. My scared “kitten” has been with us 1 year, his whole life, minus a few weeks, and he still is scared of me, the one who rescued him from the storm drain!
If she doesn’t immediately warm up to you, I wouldn’t take it too personally; but if she was allowing the nail salon owner to feed her, she already equates “tall things with two legs”=food, so that alone may be enough to coax her out of her shell.
Also, I know there’s a way to tell male cats from female cats based on the shape of their rear-ends. Too, if the cat is male, and you know he’s never been fixed, he’ll have a little something extra.I’m glad the kitty has a new home with a loving owner ^_^ hopefully she will be rooting around in your piles of costume fur and driving you crazy like a happy cat, in no time 🙂

sorry I’m confused, You said to talk to her new kitty so the kitty will know her voice then you told her to ignore the kitty. How can you do both?? -
