That reminds me… I need to update my Avid info with Kimi, since when I changed cell numbers, I forgot to change it.
I wonder if the same thing happened to this person. That they aren’t getting the calls because they no longer have the cell phone. But then it should say “this phone is no longer in service” rather then just not answering. Hmm.
I think you’ve exausted all the options you can, personally. If nothing happens in the next couple of weeks or so, then she’s yours. π
June 18, 2009 at 8:58 pm #769954I havent updated my dogs chip since I left Texas 7 years ago. I supposed I should update mine for Moocah, too.
DM, you do whatever your concience can handle. Congrats on the new addition.
June 18, 2009 at 8:59 pm #769955The vet did not give me the actual phone number and I’m not sure if there is a confidentiality thing there or not.
According to her she has tried to call the phone number she was given several times and she has gotten a VM everytine and it sounded like a cell phone. This would indicate that it has to be the last owner listed on the sheet, unless the phone number has been recycled and this person has no idea who would be calling them about a cat. I would think that if someone was calling you several times about the life of a cat you would at least call that person back and let them know you are not the person they are looking for.
What if the cell phone number has been recycled 100 times over???
June 18, 2009 at 9:27 pm #769956If you want DM, you can e-mail me the pics and I’ll put them up here for you. I’d love to see her as well!
I’ll PM you with my e-mail addy π
June 18, 2009 at 11:41 pm #769957Just keep it in the back of your mind that her owners may very well be looking for her. During Katrina, many people were separated from their pets. Instead of having to just look in the local shelters, many people had to search shelters across the US! There was an instance where a family finally found their pet, but it had been adopted out. The sad thing was, the shelter refused to overturn the adoption! Imagine losing everything you own, finding your lost family member, but being told you weren’t good enough to have your dog back. I have a few choice words for that kind of shelter, btw. I think that is the cruelest thing you can due to someone that went through a natural disaster. That had to be beyond heartbreaking, absolutely crushing.
I lived to the west of New Orleans. When the evacuation was called, I was lucky enough to have a place to go. My husband and I loaded up the two cars with clothes, emergency stuff, 4 large dogs, 1 cat, and an iguana. I love my Mother-in-Law!! She is the best! π Many people weren’t so lucky and were forced to leave their pets behind. It doesn’t make them bad people. Mandatory is mandatory, and they force you out. If all the pet-friendly hotels are full, what do you to do? If you rely on public transportation, what do you do?
Her owners could have taken her on vacation and lost her. Their home (along with their cell phone) could have burned down (heaven forbid!). What if the new owners did not know she had a chip? Just keep in mind you never know the situation. Are you willing to tell a crying little girl that you refuse to give “Kitty” back? I don’t want to sound negative, that’s not my intent, but this paragraph comes across that way. I just want you to keep in mind that you may have to make a very tough decision if the owners are eventually found. They may not be bad people.
I know it’s really hard when a stray adopts you. When I lived in a more rural part of the state, a pointer/setter mix found us. I’m am positive he was someone’s hunting dog that got lost. He was beyond skinny, and terribly afraid of men (made me wonder if he was abused). Still, we tried to find his owners because I didn’t know the situation, and I don’t like to make assumptions. He could have belonged to some little boy. We put up flyers, checked the papers, the pound for notices, but nothing. One day, not long after he found us, my hubby took him inside and gave him a bath (he stank!!). Once they go inside, that’s it. Something happens, and you consider them part of your family. He is laying at my feet as I type this. If she is already sleeping on your pillows, that bond has sealed! (and I want pics) π I know she has already wedged herself into your heart.
DM, I truly hope Sarabi finds a home with you. I wish more people would open their hearts and homes to strays. By what you have typed, it seems she is a perfect match for you and your household. I know you would give her a great life. (fingers crossed)
long post… sorry. π³

Well I was getting upset and a bit emotional and was going to the animal shelter, then not, then yes etc.
Now I KNOW some people here might not like or agree with what you are about to read but it’s the LAW as far as my little town of Lodi is concernedWe have what is called Animal Control here that is run by the Lodi Police.
In this town they only give the owners of a pet 5 days until they consider a pet abandoned. The 5 days starts the day you find them
I found Sarabi on Sunday at 7AM so that means that tomorrow, Friday, morning at 7AM she is officially mine!!
I did fill out the paperwork they needed to report a found animal and they are going to cross reference it in the computer with all the reports they currently have on file. If I remember correctly the vets in the area can also file a lost animal report for this process.
So if Sarabi has a vet in the area and her owners are REALLY concerned about where she is they should have let their vet know and the report will be filled out by now. I’m pretty sure that if she was on vacation here ANY vet her parents find would be MORE then happy to file the report for themOne of my co-workers also mentioned that maybe she was living in a house inside/outside whatever and the owners lost the house and just turned her lose since they could not care for her anymore
I was NOT trying to say MINE MINE MINE!!! When the vet told me she was chipped I was totaly fine with it and was actually happy that maybe she would end up back with her family BUT STILL NOW, NO ONE HAS CALLED TRYING TO FIND HER!!So in short I have now done as much as my time allows me to do in this matter
.
There are still no flyers anywhere about a lost cat
IF the owners do surface I will decide what I will do at that time. A lot of that decision would have to be based on how long it takes them to get in contact with me, and how I feel about the person that contacts meJune 19, 2009 at 3:53 am #769959DM,
I am truly sorry if my post offended or upset you in any way. That was not my intent (nor will it ever be on this forum). I just wanted to bring to light a possible situation, as a friend of mind had to once make a very tough decision. I am very sorry, and I sincerely apologize.
…I’m apologizing to any one else, as well. I did not wish to upset anyone.

Sorry if it sounded that way. It was not YOU it was the whole thing
I have a LOT on my plate right now and was not planning in trying to make time to find a cats owner
I’m trying to give a stray cat a LOVING home with brothers and sisters and thought this was a good thing to do
I have filed the found cat report with the city so it’s in their hands nowJune 19, 2009 at 8:05 pm #769961WELLLLLL!!!!!!
For those of you that asked if I could call the chip company myself I was able to get the phone number and chip number from my vet and called them.
This little kitty has never been registered to an official “owner”
The only information they have on file was for a vet and said it was most likely the vet that put the chip in her. This must have been the vet that my vet was calling that never returned the calls which I still think is funny, but with how many stray cats that vet has seen I guess that must be why. She could have been chipped at that HS and got out some how??
I can register her to me for $19.50 for her or my life. If I move it will cost me $6.00 to update the information with them.SOOO as far as all this evidence shows she was a VERY friendly stray that just happened to come across a stranger that had a HUGE heart and LOVES animals
Now is one of those times I wish an animal could communicate with us

Ditto. Mos def glad someone is not out there trolling for her. πJune 20, 2009 at 1:36 am #769966Congratulations on the new edition to your household! She sounds like a real gem! π The great thing is you didn’t have to find her, she found you! π

DM, I think you are taking to heart the wrong way what some of the forum members have said. I think everyone here thinks you are being a GREAT person for helping this kitty out and giving her shelter. Really! We all think that is AWESOME!! π
A few of your posts made it seem like you were very eager to keep her (which I understand!) and didn’t look for the owners very much. It was just unclear to us, until you posted more, what was being done to find the owners. Many of us have lost pets before by accident and it is devastating. All we were trying to say was to give it some time and you have been– that much is cleared up! I am sure no one here thinks you are a bad person for helping this cat.
