Congrats! I think you are an angel taking her in! If I was so heart broken over her disappearance, I’d have had flyers and contacted places all over searching or my lost pet, but that’s just me. I remember when I was a little girl and I made Reward posters out of crayon for my cat my I later found out my mom dropped at the pound. If an owner can’t go to some lengths to find their pet then I’d hopefully they would at least be relieved someone was taking care of it if something bad happened. If she was microchipped and nobody is claiming her then something could have happened. Maybe they passed away or fell on desperate times. Theses days you never can tell. The important thing is she found a warm place to sleep with someone who will love her.

And I should add-my vet info is also attatched to the chip number they have.
June 18, 2009 at 4:22 am #769940I am looking at it right now that I’m fostering her.
If the owner DID in fact go thru the microchip part which they DID they know how to find her
I’m not saying I will not still try and the Humane Society is not too far away I will try and stop by there tomorrow and see if there are any flyers up there.
My Vet told me that in her experience she does not see her reunited with her former owner
It has been since Sunday morning at 7am so almost 4 full days
there are still no flyers in my neighbor hood and CL has not had anything as of yet
I do keep checkingHow long do you think I should try until i finally accept that fact that she was suppoed to be mine?????
I’m serious I’d really like to know how long is long enough???I just checked CL again and still nothing 4 day after
June 18, 2009 at 5:33 am #769941DM, I’m not going to restate my post, but was hoping you would look outside of just CL and reliance on a chip to find it’s owner. Actually, any reason you can’t get the chip info? And a lack of flyers doesn’t imply anything; local places sometimes rip them down (I know this for a fact as I watched as a local supermarket ripped my flyers down at their place). And that’s even saying where the cat originally got lost is anywhere near were you are.
Personally, I feel I’ve done all I can when I exhausted all possibilities. Just some calls to shelters and such, you don’t even have to leave your house! Leave your name and number so they can contact you if they get a call later on. Check your local papers for lost adds; you don’t even need to buy the paper! And my other post had other suggestions as well. None too taxing, just basic stuff.
*leaves the thread forever because she realizes she’s just going to keep restating herself*

🙁 That is rough, because it’s hard to bond when you’ve got that hanging over your head. I’d say a month, tops. Couldn’t they figure out from the phone number what area she was from?
((And I’m with Nam on the cats outside thing, but that’s because of my Biology BA a’screaming at me))
And yes, your vet is UTTERLY wonderful!

As far as my vet has told me (and I have NO reason to doubt what she has told me)she has spent 3 days trying to track down as much information as she could to try and reunite this cat with her previous “owner”. She found out that she has not had her shots in 2 years since she was a kitten, she was born 7-07, and has left at least three messages on the ONLY phone number they have on file for her, she said it sounded like a cell phone and the owner should be checking those messages even if they are not checking their messages at home. I have been checking CL everyday. Looking for any signs or postings in my neighborhood checking the Penny Saver AND will stop by the Humane Society this afternoon to see what I can find out
We, at least in my neighborhood , no longer have bulletin boards at the supermarkets to post things like this.
She was found OVER 4 days ago and I have not stopped trying to find out as much as I can about her past
What more can I do???
The chip company also has my current information in case they ever got contacted abotu herI really don’t understand why this has caused such a riff???
I’m trying to do a good thing here. I’m fostering her to make sure she does not get put to sleep in the pound. I’m exhausting all the avenues I can BUT I’m not able to afford to put out an ad in the local newspaper myself right now.
If this cats previous owner is trying to find her I have done everything I can to let them know they can contact meI hontesly don’t know if I would want to return her though with how dirty she was, how long her claws where and learning that she has not had her shots in 2 years. How does that add up to a responsible pet owner??

My vet has spent 3 days, and has not charged me anything extra, trying to track this info down but the problem with trying to figure out the area is that she said it sonds like a cell phone connection so it could belong to anyone from anywhere.
When I go to teh Humane Society today I can bring her with me so see if they can give me any information about her previous “owner”.
I have never tried to do anything like this so I’m not even sure if they are legally tell ME anythingJune 18, 2009 at 2:30 pm #769945This is assuming that the original owner was the last owner. Maybe they re-homed her and never told the new people about the chip or changed the chip info. Maybe the owner can’t afford her anymore or whatever and is assuming that because the microchip people are contacting her, the cat is safe and being cared for. With the economy the way it is, people are leaving their pets in locked foreclosed houses or dumping them. There are dozens of possible scenarios.
Personally, I would give it a week at most, considering out of town business, illness or a vacation. After that, I would consider her yours. Cells phones are taken everywhere with us these days, so….
June 18, 2009 at 2:56 pm #769946THANK YOU!!!
My thougths EXACTLY!!
I have given EVERYONE that needs to know all the information I can about how to get in touch with this cat if anyone REALLY wants to find her
She could have been re-homed many times with out the knowledge of the chip, I had not even thought of that since that would have been one of the first things I would have told someone about her if It was me Re-homing her
I will wait thru July and if there has NOT been any sort of contact at all then she will no longer be my foster daughter she will officially be my adopted daughter. I’m already considering her that with all the hoops I have already jumped through BUT to be fair I will give it until 7-31-09and that is itJune 18, 2009 at 3:35 pm #769947You’re a great person, DM! 🙂
June 18, 2009 at 4:12 pm #769948Thank you
she is fitting in nicelyJune 18, 2009 at 5:07 pm #769949When Avid chips animals there is a sheet they have to fill out…It has the name, age, description (breed etc) and any other info necessary on it. They are given a number and if they are found all the person has to do is call Avid and ask about the specific number. So, yeah, they would know her name and that she is calico. When we got Jake, they chipped him at the HS for no charge. He has a little blue chip on his collar along with his actual name tag. If they fall off though, he can have his chip scanned (Usually put between the shoulder blades from what I heard) and come home to me! So far he’s got loose twice, and both times I chased him down. Once through 8 inches of snow in a tshirt and stretch pants at 1230 am. And the other time I chased him down in the car…I actually had to cut him off like the police cut off a high speed pursuit! But, I feel much safer knowing he has that tiny little insurance policy. Now, if people weren’t automatically scared of him and his 130lbs of love! LOL XD
You think running after him in a tshirt and stretch pants is bad try having to chase a dog in your bright red shorty pj’s on sunday afternoon. I had a dog once that was a runner and she managed to pop the screen door lose and took off. I was in the house, with my leg propped up having pulled a muscle when this happened, and I knew if I took time to get dressed I would lose her so I started hobbling after her in my pj’s. I would get within grabbing distance and she would take off again. I chased her all over the neighborhood (the neighbors had a good laugh) and 3 blocks into the next one when I spotted a little boy coming down the street. Starfire was friendly so I yelled at the boy to please call her and grab her when she came to him which he did. She started wining when I got to her – she knew she was in trouble. I was just happy to have her back.
June 18, 2009 at 7:26 pm #769950Oh no I totally agree with you DM! I was just saying that anyone that cared about that cat would have had the home, alternate, and vet info updated on that chip-and it seems like little Sarabi didn’t have her info up to date. I’d give it a week, two tops before going ahead and switching all the info over to your name 🙂
June 18, 2009 at 8:09 pm #769951How long should you wait? Personally, I think you should take her to the humane society like you are supposed to. Its a law here, I dont know about there. You can adopt her from there. Once you do, the owner has 30 days. Once that 30 days is up, then the cat is yours. If the owner claims her within the 30 days, they have to refund you the adoption fee and pay you $2.50 per day for the cats care. Once again, this is here, I am not sure about there. Cats are not a case of finders keepers and 4 days is not very long. Esp as someone stated, the owners could be on vacation and the cat could have slipped out. She is already trying to slip out of your place… maybe even trying to go back home. I dont think its causing a big rift or anything DM. I just think the right thing to do is to turn the animal in to the humane society, not just write off the owners as bad people and consider yourself a ‘rescuer’ of a poor abandoned cat.
June 18, 2009 at 8:23 pm #769952Well let me put it to you this way
What if this little girl got run over by a car or tortured and killed by some nasty kids or the drug addicts I have learned that live in my complex??
Then she would not be here anymore and this conversation would not even be happening because there would be NO cat.
I have opened up my house and heart here to make sure she has a good life fom here on out. Why should I pay the HS to keep her for in a cage for 30 days??? -
