UPDATE!!
I just called the vet and no one has called about her yet. I’m going to play foster parent for a little while and will see how long it takes for this lady to call about her cat. The good news is she has been fixed if I get to keep her at least that is done. She will be able to run around at my house with friends instead of being in a cage

I do understand about running outside and they can lose weight that way too but I personally would be a nervous wreck waiting up every night until all my babies where home safe and sound but that is just the way I am
I’m going to call the vet later today to see if her office has had contact from her owner. The chips place, Avid I think it was, knew she was a Calico and said they knew her name I’m not sure how much I believe that Calico could have just come up on a computer screen along with he name
With my luck she has been picked up already
I did tell the vet that now that she knows how to get to my house if she shows up again she is MINE!!When Avid chips animals there is a sheet they have to fill out…It has the name, age, description (breed etc) and any other info necessary on it. They are given a number and if they are found all the person has to do is call Avid and ask about the specific number. So, yeah, they would know her name and that she is calico. When we got Jake, they chipped him at the HS for no charge. He has a little blue chip on his collar along with his actual name tag. If they fall off though, he can have his chip scanned (Usually put between the shoulder blades from what I heard) and come home to me! So far he’s got loose twice, and both times I chased him down. Once through 8 inches of snow in a tshirt and stretch pants at 1230 am. And the other time I chased him down in the car…I actually had to cut him off like the police cut off a high speed pursuit! But, I feel much safer knowing he has that tiny little insurance policy. Now, if people weren’t automatically scared of him and his 130lbs of love! LOL XD
June 17, 2009 at 6:21 pm #769925First I laughed at the thought of you in stretch pants and a t-shirt at 12:30AM through snow since it sounded like something I would be doing then I thought you where talking about a cat until I got to the 130 lbs?? For a CAT??? 😆

I had to reread it too, since I was visualizing a cat the whole time. Briefly thought it was a child/husband! 😆 😈
June 17, 2009 at 11:56 pm #769928I’m shocked that no one has called about that little sweetie yet! I’d be FRANTIC if one of mine were missing-heck, even if one of them is at the vet for a tooth cleaning I bug the poor girls all afternoon needing updates 😆
June 18, 2009 at 12:45 am #769929Sorry to hear about your cats, Khat7. How lousy. I know kids are cruel to animals if they catch them. We acquired one when I was little that the neighbor kids had sprayed with hairspray and set on fire. She lived and we took care of her for a while, but when we moved, she didnt come with us. I dont remember what my mom did with her… I think she said she found her a home with someone… it was a long time ago.
I hope it works out for you DM. It would kinda suck if the owners cared enough to have her chipped and spayed and then they werent reunited because they didnt update their number or something. If they dont find the owners, though, at least you can rest easy knowing you tried.
June 18, 2009 at 1:48 am #769930OK WELLLLLL……
I was bugging the vet receptionist all day today because I could not stop thinking about her. I REALLY wish I knew how to post pics so you could all meet Sarabi!! (name from the Lion King just like all my others so far)
I ALSO HAVE TO SAY I LOVE MY VET!!!!!!She must have spent hours trying to collect owner information for me today.
As far as the chip information goes she is 2, born 7-07. I still can’t believe it wiht how small she seems to me
Still no one has called to try and find her, no CL listing or flyers NOTHING!!
My vet told me she does not think the person will ever try to get her back.
She is already fixed too and they are looking into how I can get the chip information update with MY information
She got a phone number from the chip company and said it sounded like a cell phone that she has left messages with no response.
I was charged $30 for blood work and she is FIV- but was not up to deate on her shots. She got all her shots today and I was going to be charges for them but I said I thought I was only going to be charged the $30 we had talked about on the phone AND she then told me that she would not charge me for the vaccines since I was doing such a good thing!!
CAN YOU BELIEVE THAT???HAVE I SAID LATELY THAT I LOVE MY VET???
I have a PERM new addition to my family!!
I won’t let he go now!!!June 18, 2009 at 2:10 am #769931DM, congratulations!!! Sarabi, how cute! I love that movie!!
Khat and ski, it amazes me how cruel some people can be towards animals. I forget when, but it was proven that people who abuse animals eventually start abusing humans too.
June 18, 2009 at 2:45 am #769932Yeah for a new kitty! 😀 I am really glad you get to keep her since her owner doesn’t seem to be around. I’ve been trying to find the ‘change of ownership’ form online, I found the one for the UK! 😆 But no luck so far with the US, the Avid site in the US is pretty lousy 😛 I *think* that when my boss adopted Lola and Stormy (they came chipped from the rescue) that we were provided with forms to fill out to change the address with Avid. As I recall it took AGES for the address to be changed and to get our conformation letter. I was not impressed 😛 My cats are with Home Again.
June 18, 2009 at 3:14 am #769933I do not let mine out of the house so I hope I will NEVER have to worry about it.
She did try to get out this evening already and I turned her around and told her that those days are OVER for her
I wonder if she is going ot be geting any bigger. She seems VERY thin to me especially for 2 years oldJune 18, 2009 at 3:20 am #769934I feel for you. My bosses cat (aka my ‘almost’ cat) Lola, is 3 years old and literally 5.4 pounds. Her sister Stormy is 8 lbs. No matter what we do she just doesn’t gain weight! (she goes to the vet regularly) I want to see your new kitty! :*
June 18, 2009 at 3:28 am #769935How long ago did you find the kitty? It could be the owner’s are on vacation, and the “house/cat-sitter” let her out. I hear about that a lot, and the owners aren’t told until they return from vacation.
June 18, 2009 at 3:40 am #769936I know I’ll get boos and hisses for his one, but as someone who lost a pet before and spent many a nights worrying, I’d be really sad if this owner is desperately looking for their pet.
DM, have you called your local human societies and shelters asking if anyone called looking for a cat? You talked about inquiring about vouchers, but what about asking about callers? Have you called up your local police station? Have you checked the local papers to see if there are lost adds for them? Have you placed a found add in craigslist and your local paper? You’ll know what are fake calls because you have her microchipped name; just don’t put her real name in the add and ask callers to provide it for verification.
They may be elderly owners who have no idea even about craigslists to make an add there so you need to check other places. And they may have changed their phone number since microchipping. And they may have flyers, just not posted in the areas you travel. Also, in my city and surrounding towns we have no less than 20 vets (no idea in your area); expecting the owners to be contacting the one you go to isn’t really reliable.
Not trying to rain on your parade, but losing a pet is a horrible thing to experience. If, in fact, they lost it and it wasn’t abandoned. But it doesn’t look like you can tell from this situation. It’s only been a day since you brought the cat to the vet, it doesn’t hurt to continue to search beyond craigslist and your vet.
June 18, 2009 at 3:58 am #769937Yes, please don’t give up on the owners. I’d be heartbroken if a pet accidentally got loose! It’s impossible to know the situation at this point, it’s only been a day.
I also want to say that I’m a huge advocate for indoor cats except in a few situations (e.g true farm cats as mousers in barns, etc). Better for the cat, better for wildlife. Housecats are not wild, they have been domesticated for eons, and cats hunting native non-pest species such as birds, lizards, etc is very detrimental.
