I already have 4 cats and can’t decide what to do
I have 2 girls and 2 boys already
when I got home from work on Sunday a beautiful calico was screaming as I walked upstairs and then she ran to the stairs then right upstairs at my feet
I ran in and got some food but when I got back outside she was looking for more attention then food. I think I have a she here and she seems VERY thin to me. Maybe 4 months old I’m thinking
Her paws are VERY rough and she could use a bath
I’m also a person that does not think house cats should be left outside
this was at 7AM and at least it was not too cold outside but I’m pretty sure it had been earlier.
I brought her in and surprising the current 4 did not seem to have any problems with her at all, I got some hissing and growling from her but only because it’s all new to her
I don’t think I can afford a 5th cat with vet bills but I HATE to just toss her out again. She is VERY affectionate and seems house broken AKA potty trained, Knows what litter is and how to use it
I just walked in my bedroom to turn off my alarm and she was all curled up on my pillow
I’m torn on what to do???

June 15, 2009 at 12:52 pm #769882She sounds delightful! Obviously she knows a winner when she sees one! 😉
June 15, 2009 at 1:53 pm #769883I don’t know if I can afford her or not.
I have to call the vet and find out money for an initial visit and her operation etc.
I also have NO idea where she is on her shots???
If I started now and she already has some will that screw her up???I’m really worried about how thin she seems to me
June 15, 2009 at 2:02 pm #769884Speaking to the vet is a good first start. There are organizations that will do annual shots and spaying at a real low cost. I was researching this for a friend with a dog and found a place to neuter for $10. Shots there were, I believe $25. That cost was based on applying and income. All you need to do is search the internet. It is also possible that your local humane society could provide low cost care too.
If you are inclined to keep her, it may take some legwork on your part to find places that will be economically feasible, but they do exist. It also sounds like your vet should be giving you a “bulk” discount. You have nothing to lose by asking.
Good luck and if you need some help researching, let me know and I may be to help you out.

June 15, 2009 at 2:59 pm #769885I was just talking to my friend about a calico cat coming my way some day…it seems she came your way instead! 😀 It’s very sweet of you to keep her. 8)
I agree about finding a shelter or Humane Society that offers low cost shots and spaying. Adoptions and donations are down, so they should be happy to help keep a cat in a home.
June 15, 2009 at 3:08 pm #769886I have not decided for SURE I’m going to keep her or not.
I found a voucher site for spayed and it is attached to my Vet so I will be calling them to check into it after they open at 9am.
My vet is GREAT and has been giving my a Bulk discount if you can call it that. last month I brought all 4 in together and they all had exams (was 3 years since their last ones) and 2 shots each for $248 for all 4
$62 per cat for an office visit and 2 shots each I thought was GREAT and she is a VERY loving vet. She LOVE to hug my kitties when I bring them in.
I’ll know more once they open at 9AM CA timeJune 15, 2009 at 5:41 pm #769887That is a great vet! That kitty sounds so loving!! 😀

She is VERY LOVING!!!
I called the Vet and her first visit would be $78 that includes $27 office visit, $30 for blood test for FIV etc and $16 for her first 4 in 1 shot
I called the humane society and they ran out of money for the vouchers which where $20 of Neuter and $30 off Spay. I have an appointment tomorrow at 11:30 to bring her in to see my vet.
I don’t think I can REALLY afford a 5th cat right now!!! GGRRR!!!!!
🙄 🙄 🙄 🙄 🙄June 15, 2009 at 7:32 pm #769889You’ve been adopted, DM! Calicos are some of the sweetest cats too! Your vet sounds wonderful; she truly cares about your cats. Please tell us whether or not you can keep her.
June 15, 2009 at 8:40 pm #769890Why dont you take her to the Humane Society? For one, they can see if she is microchipped or if someone has filled out a lost report. If not, then you can get 1st dibs on keeping her. That, and she will come to you spayed, shotted up, and microchipped all for one low cost of about $60. Well, its $60 here… dont know how much it is there. For real, though. She may have slipped out of someones house and they may be searching frantically for her. You can check Craigslist, too, to see if someone lost her. I am speaking from the point of view of someone who has recently had a pet dissapear (Princess) and apparently someone has decided to ‘adopt’ her as opposed to turning her in to the Humane Society so I have a chance of being reunited with her. Also, while she is awating surgery, etc, you can think about your decision to keep her and make sure it is the right one. 🙂
June 15, 2009 at 9:41 pm #769891well she is going in tomorrow so I can see what happens there to make sure she is healthy. I did not even think about CL I can check into that when I get home. I just wonder if they had let her out at 7am how much could she have been loved in whatever house she was at. Her claws where VERY long and sharp too I trimed them last night but that told me that she was not being taken care of properly and her pads are so incredibly rough I have a hard time believing she was very loved where she was at. She is WAY too much a house cat to be outside especially at that time. She just slept on my chest all night and that is not usual for a cat in a new house
I will check CL thoughI just checked CL for yesterdy and today for my area and the only cat listings are to find kittens and cats new homes
June 15, 2009 at 10:44 pm #769892Ski, I’m sorry about Princess. Some people can be so unfeeling regarding other people’s pets.
