thank you everyone! We were gonna have him stay outside some, but he’s decided he’s a housedog…lol…and since he’s so well behaved, I suppose that’s what he’ll stay. 😀 I just dont have the heart to put him out, especially when he gives me “the look”….it’s a hard look to describe, but powerful. 😯 do all dogs have “the look” ?? this is my first time as a dog parent.
Oh, yeah. The Look. Some dogs are better at it than others but they all have it. Lab types are particularly good at it – and Cavaliers. And let’s not even talk about Goldens. He seems really good at it – you are so doomed! 😉 😆
March 11, 2008 at 2:01 am #676776Oh, he’s so pretty!
and yeah, dogs can give you “the look”…
When we got Pooka, she was 2 and terrified in general. She got over her fear when around us, and eventually around new people. It took her a while, though.
I’m sure he’ll come through!
Read my books! Volume 1 and 2 of A Dragon Medley are available now.

http://www.sarahjestin.com/feedbacklists.htmMarch 11, 2008 at 2:05 am #676777I’m just amazed at how nice he is, and I have a hard time imagining someone neglecting him then abandoning him…he has the best manners of any dog I’ve ever met…he knows how to sit, lie down and is pretty good on a leash…I worked with him alot today. When the babies were eating chicken nuggets he just sat there, looking, and quivering all over, but never moved to take food from them, although it was VERY obvious he was waiting for them to offer. 😆
March 11, 2008 at 2:08 am #676778All my pets are always inside. The dog only goes out to go potty and chase the squirrels. My Aussie is 12 yrs old so she pretty much sleeps all day. Dogs are pack animals and they want company. With your new dog, she might be too scared to stay outside by herself.
Sounds like you found a treasure. 🙂
March 11, 2008 at 2:08 am #676779It’s sad that someone gave a nice dog like him up, but their loss is your gain. I hope he continues to do well. He sounds like a keeper to me!!! 😉
March 11, 2008 at 2:11 am #676780apparently there was some abuse involved too, he’d had a shock collar on enough that he had open wounds when the humane society got him. 🙁 He also has a hard time with loud sounds, and will hide or shove his face into your belly…
March 11, 2008 at 2:20 am #676781I am totally against shock colors for pets. A old fashioned leash and collar (or choke collar) should be enough. 👿 I wonder how he’ll do in thunderstorms. 😕 Is he crate trained at all? You might consider it, if storms make him go nuts…poor thing…. 🙁
March 11, 2008 at 2:24 am #676782he is crate trained, but where I’m at home all the time, we didnt buy one. I hadnt thought of thunderstorms, but he would probably be ok in our bedroom, with one of us to comfort him. That seems to be his very best “comfort zone” right now, he also loves Donovans room. 😀
March 11, 2008 at 2:32 am #676783If you’re home, you probably don’t need a crate. Just keep it in mind though. When she was older, my chocolate Lab was terrified of thunder, fireworks and football games on TV. If no one was around when thunder or fireworks were booming, she’d go in the bathroom and shut the door. I guess that made her feel better. 😆 I never did figure out why she didn’t like football. Maybe it was because we were always yelling at our team (or the other team)!! 😆
March 11, 2008 at 2:35 am #676784😆 😆 😆 lol! I’m wondering how he’ll handle chris and I swordfighting in the yard…. 😯 or wrestling and throwing each other around (chris was on the wrestling team in high school)…we’re very…physical people. lol.
March 11, 2008 at 3:02 am #676785Spend time working on the simple obedience commands. The one on one time will build his confidence in you. Remember to use special treats that he only gets while ‘training’.
March 11, 2008 at 6:54 am #676786What a sweet-looking dog. Good for you for rescuing him.
March 11, 2008 at 7:19 am #676787Our dog belle is terrified of loud noises and it seems to stay that way. It may just be a character trait of certain dogs. I think he will learn to like going for walks it just might take some time. You might have to be a bit tough on him and take him out the first few times even though he doesn’t want to. Once he trusts that he isn’t going to get hurt then he’ll adjust. My friends dog was deathly afraid of other dogs, until she was forced to live with another one now they’re the best of friends and she’s a lot more outgoing.
By the way I love the chocolate colored coat. He’s a great looking dog.
I would help but I am just to tired to get out of bed today~
Engaged to a WeaselMarch 11, 2008 at 10:05 am #676788What a sweetheart! How old is he?
March 11, 2008 at 1:10 pm #676789They told us he’s 2 years old. I took him on a really long walk last night..and I dont think he’s ever seen a squirrel before… 😯 😯 😯 …boy did that get his attention. 😆 😆 He’s not to bad on a leash, although he does pull alot. We’ll work on it slowly, the more he pulls, the slower I go, til we sit there at a stop. That seems to be working, he wasnt pulling as badly at the end of the walk. 🙂
