I think you should just take credit for creating a new type of animal! 😀
October 27, 2009 at 1:54 pm #788676If only I could come up with a name….I suck at names. 🙄
October 27, 2009 at 1:58 pm #788677We-aaall, if dracogriff won’t do – and I guess it won’t, as it’s already been taken – maybe we can brainstorm something. Do you have any more details on this critter, like where it lives, its color, anatomical details?

Basically take a griffin, strip all the feathers and fur off, give it a reptilian skin (like the dinos in JP) and leathery wings and you have it. Any ideas? And no it isn’t a basilisk or a dragon.
I’ve seen artwork of a creature just like that, but cannot recall what it was called. I’ll let you know if I figure it out.
I think generally it would classify as dragon though, as so many cultures had so many different variations on what was considered to be a ‘dragon’.Volunteer mod- I'm here to help! Email me for the best response: nambroth at gmail.com

Has anyone here seen Jim Henson’s The Storyteller tv series? This description kinda sounds just like what the griffin looked like in one of the episodes. The title was The Luck Child. I always loved the griffin in that one. He had dragon wings – he actually looked very dragony. I always thought he looked so cool 8) .October 27, 2009 at 6:54 pm #788680The griffin in “The Luck Child” does look slightly dragony, but he has lots of feathers.
Playing with combinations of dragon and gryphon I came up with Dryphon/Drayphon as a possible creature name. I can’t decide if I like it or not. I did a quick google search of the name and hit on this, but my critter doesn’t have feathers and this one does.

October 28, 2009 at 6:44 am #788683I was actualy thinking of the Raken and To’Raken from Robert Jordan’s Wheel of TIme series, but I can’t find a good description of them barring searching through the actual books, which is NOT happening any time soon.
October 28, 2009 at 1:58 pm #788684That first picture you posted is very close Jennifer. Maybe not quite as malevolent-looking as it was in my dream, but close indeed.

When it comes to fantasy critters, the chances are that someone has made something close already, yeah! But that’s okay because everyone has their own interpretation.
You wouldn’t believe some of the crazy combos I’ve seen!Volunteer mod- I'm here to help! Email me for the best response: nambroth at gmail.com
