I don’t know if this has been suggested before, or maybe it has (I’m too lazy to search around)… but Melody have you ever considered making flightless dragons (wryms) something along the lines of the orientals only with more of the winged body type and face.
Also there are legless dragons (I forget the correct name) with wings, not the feathered flying serpents but actually dragons. I can picture a little beauty all curled in a snakey fashion with large bat-like wings lined with the crystals…. squeek* squeek* squeek*I found this picture of the legless dragon….

Amphiptere would include Quetzacoatl and some of the egyptian mythology like Aapep, Meretseger, and Buto. Amphisbaena is the two headed serpent.

October 27, 2009 at 1:40 am #788664Google = Love
besides, I get to learn all about new things when I do research for you guys 😳 Like I didn’t know the two headed snake was called Amphisbeana
October 27, 2009 at 2:58 am #788665I knew all those existed, just not the names and which they belonged to. 😕
Yeah, google is much fun to spend time on gawking around at stuff…I come up with alot of PYO ideas that way…I combine what I think would be neat ideas, and mash them around to make them more “me”. LOLOctober 27, 2009 at 4:13 am #788666Well if you are so good at finding things on the net Cat, how about helping me find a name for a creature. I know it has to exsist somewhere, but I can’t find it.
Basically take a griffin, strip all the feathers and fur off, give it a reptilian skin (like the dinos in JP) and leathery wings and you have it. Any ideas? And no it isn’t a basilisk or a dragon.
October 27, 2009 at 4:29 am #788667any idea if it’s based in any mythology like greek, norse etc? how big it would be compared to say a human, wether this is a more recent creation or is older?
Is it the body of a lion and head/front legs of an eagle just with scales? or does it look kind of different?
Was this described in a book, or have you seen a picture of one?
October 27, 2009 at 5:31 am #788668Nothing in here that looks like what you describe, but it’s got a lot of cool stuff!
Kitsune is even in there!

So it has an avian head and front claws, batwings and is completely covered in scales? It sounds interesting but doesn’t ring any bells – where have you seen it?
October 27, 2009 at 12:55 pm #788670Yep it’s got a (raptorial) avaian front half, large feline back half, bat/dragon-like wings and covered in scales. Size wise large enough that it likes to harass humans, one of it’s favorite preys, and possibly pick them up for short distances. Needless to say it’s not a friendly creature.
It’s from a dream that I’m basing part of a story on. I just could have sworn I’d seen it somewhere else.
October 27, 2009 at 1:18 pm #788671That’s fascinating. The only thing that comes to mind is a gargoyle, but they can take a myriad of forms. I’m going to loook around the interwebs a bit…
EDIT: Found something. Maybe it’s a type of dracogriff? AlectorFencer’s version.
October 27, 2009 at 1:35 pm #788672It’s not made of stone like a gargoyle though. Those draco-griffs have feathers. No feathers on this thing at all. They are closer though.
October 27, 2009 at 1:39 pm #788673Well, you’ve got me stumped. I sketched one out to better visualize it and I have to say, I’ve never heard, seen or read of such a creature.
October 27, 2009 at 1:45 pm #788674That’s what I keep getting told when I ask/tell people about it. I keep hoping I’ll get lucky and someone while recognize this nasty.
