they are absolutely amazing Jen! I wish I could see them in person, especially the phoenix.
AnthroCon, say no more, dear. I’ve never gotten smart out of AnthroCon.
From what I keep seeing I believe one either needs to be cuter-toony-fluffyer or have more reproduction parts. or be famous in the fandoomDont let it bug you, those are exceptionally wonderful pieces, not just in the final result but also in the process, color usage, image layout.
I’m sure you’re gonna get a lot of interested buyers for these here on da net.July 5, 2008 at 2:19 pm #720618Mmm! I would love to know what you are asking for either of the last two dragon images, and what their dimensions are. I don’t know if prints are an option for these (since I’m not the only one who likes them :P). The backgrounds on the wolf and panther pieces are fantastic, too! Prints maybe? I suspect they may be a bit of a nuisance to produce, but I figured I’d express interest anyway.
It’s a shame that these didn’t sell, because I don’t think it had a thing to do with the quality of the art itself. They are beautiful and show considerable care and skill. But, as Tintaglia said, folks aren’t spending as much on “nonessentials” right now. I’m expecting to see the same pattern at Comic-Con later this month.
July 5, 2008 at 3:38 pm #720619I edited the first post with sizes and prices since so many asked. I am asking lower than I want, because I know the economy is crap right now. :/ It’s scary times for people like me that sell non-essential items like this.
I can make prints of anything other than the Aurora phoenix, the prices for prints are on my website. 🙂

My art: featherdust.comJuly 5, 2008 at 5:13 pm #720620I think you are going too low on the Phoenix…wish I could raid my savings for it, but hubby would kill me.
Bide your time, everything will sell eventually.
I love the winged animals you did, the wolf is wonderful, I really love him. I too would be interested in prints.
I also have not forgotten the request for the Pegasus print…i should be able to get that dealt with by next month.

July 7, 2008 at 1:08 am #720621Oh, I sooo love that wolf! *grabby hands*
The economy is such crap right now. With commuting 2 hours total a day to work, 5 days a week, I make less now with my raise in January than I did when I started 18 months ago. Not fun. 😥
If that original isn’t available when I have the extra funds, I’m definitely going to have to go for a print.
July 7, 2008 at 6:07 am #720622I really like the dragon on the tree trunk. Bummer that I have no wallspace. 😕
July 7, 2008 at 6:11 pm #720623Well, I am in a bit of a crunch. It’s too hot and humid for me to work on Windstones today and possibly half of the week (My paint isn’t drying and I’m making a mess…)
So I need work.I am now open, on a limited basis, to Traditional Media commissions.
– Why not Digital?
I can’t take on new digital work right now. As Eld and Kiohl can attest, my work space at my computer is pretty much non-existant. I’ve tried nearly every position and configuration over the last 8 months, but drawing on my wacom for large amounts of time has only led to varying levels of problems for me- ranging from mild discomfort and numbness in my drawing hand, all the way to HOLY CRAP PAIN. So, traditional media only please!! At least I can take a pad of paper and such and work on the floor if I have to, where I can… you know… bend my arm.-Media/Prices?
The following are starting prices. Each piece varies a great deal depending on complexity, subject matter, and size. The starting prices are just to kinda help you figure out if it’s an affordible thing or not. Please get in touch with me with your specific ideas for a more accurate quote.
It is with great, great sadness that many of my art supplies are still packed away in storage, and I honestly have no room for them here, so I am a bit limited:Ink- Pretty self explanitory. I ink with Zigs which are lightfast and waterproof. I suck at hatching so pretty much I do fancy and detailed outlines. I can work either on bristol or grey marbled card stock. Sizes can range from 2″ x 3″ all the way to 9″ x 12″, possibly larger if I can locate my large bristol pad. 4″ x 6″ starts at $50 and goes up depending on many variables.
Ink and Marker- I use Prismacolor markers, and ink with Zigs. I’d love to get a full set of Copics but I can’t even dream of the $330 for a set of 72. So for now, Prismas. They are smelly. I also don’t have a full set so my colors are a bit limited! Be aware of this as I may not be able to color match exactly. You’ve been warned. Also note that backgrounds- detailed or not- eat a lot of marker and therefore can add quite a bit to the price. It is not unusual for me to kill a few markers on a single piece of art, which gets pricey at $3-4/per marker XD I can work either on bristol or grey marbled card stock. Warning: grey may show through the colors on grey marble stock. Sizes can range from 2″ x 3″ all the way to 9″ x 12″, possibly larger if I can locate my large bristol pad. 4″ x 6″ starts at $80 and goes up depending on many variables.
Ink and Watercolor- I use pro watercolors but they are not the high end, super expensive, uber-pigment ones (someday I will make the investment, but can’t just yet). They are cake watercolors and so my colors tend to be a bit muted. I tend to work loosely with watercolor, leaving a lot of the personality of the paint show though. I can work either hot press watercolor paper (default) or rough cold press for a higher price. Sizes can range from 2″ x 3″ all the way to 11″ x 15″”, possibly larger. 4″ x 6″ starts at $70 and goes up depending on many variables.
Feathers- Acrylic paint on either a goose or wild turkey feather. I can embed CZ or natural gemstones in the shaft for an additional fee. I can use a feather sent to me if you want, but I cannot and will not use feathers from wild birds native to the USA unless they are from legally harvested game birds. I can’t sell/ship feathers internationally at this time due to shipping and trade restrictions on bird ‘parts’. Sizes range from 5″ all the way up to 14″ long. Prices start at $75 and vary greatly depending on subject, size, and complexity.
Other- I currently have acrylic paint, watercolor, gouache, ink, marker, and graphite at my disposal. If you have an idea for something I can make with those, feel free to ask!
-Terms?
Have a good peek at this page: http://featherdust.critter.net/commissions. Now, I can’t take digital or oils at this time but everything on there is pretty accurate. Make sure you’re cool with the bit about rights. Rating: I don’t go above “G” rating for naughty content. However, because it doesn’t bother me, I will go up to PG-13 for gore/violence/dark subject matter- as long as it has no sexual context. It’s true… I’ll draw Hell but I won’t draw a nipple. Sorry! There are a ton of really awesome artists that can fill all your nipple-drawing needs if that’s something you are really looking for.. 😆-Subject matter?
Okay, brutal honesty time. While in the background I am indeed continually trying to push myself into subject matter outside my comfort zone (by this I mean things like human anatomy, cars, etc… not rating), when I do commissions I GREATLY PREFER and SUGGEST that we stay within my ‘comfort zone’ on things I know I can draw pretty well. Very simply… I am always very concerned with quality and performance of my art. I want to deliver you the best piece that I can! I am anal about this- it is VERY important to me! :} If I am drawing a commission and the subject matter is hard for me to draw, I will be stressing over it and I’ll be miserable the whole time. I know this, sadly, from experience. And when I am miserable doing a piece of art, it will not be amongst my best work. While I am by no means trying to say not to ask me for stuff I haven’t drawn before. I like drawing new critters and new environments! I just mean that asking me to draw a gundam flying through space with 30 anime girls with giant lasers on it… not the best idea. 😉 You will get the best art out of me if you commission me for something that doesn’t make me miserable to try and draw for you.-How long will you be taking commissions?
Well, simply put, I don’t know how much time I’ll have. If I get a ton of detailed, huge commissions I won’t have time to take many. If I get a bunch of small ones, I can do more. I will take as many as I can, one at a time… but I may have to close again at any time.-Why so expensive?
I have been getting this question increasingly often. Unfortunately, the cost of supplies just keeps going up, especially with shipping (by the way, if anyone knows where to get good art supplies cheaper than places like dickblick.com, utrechtart.com, and ocassionally eBay? I don’t have an art or craft store within 100+ miles of me..). And, I’m finding that as I slowly improve, I am spending more and more time on individual pieces to make them the best I can. I frequently make less than minimum wage (at least here in NY) which is bad news since this is literally my living. I know that money is a tough things for many right now so I am attempting to keep them low while still not screwing myself over. 🙂So you are welcome to drop me a note here or email me. Just please be sure to include your email address, what you want specifically, medium, size… reference images if possible, and we’ll work things out. nambroth AT gmail DAWT com is my preferred email address.

My art: featherdust.comJuly 7, 2008 at 9:09 pm #720624Getting back to this thread later than I’d intended . . . well, now you have cast the temptation far and wide! 😆 Bad enough to try to decide on which prints, but I just happened across your DeviantArt page and discovered some things I really like, and now you’ve gone and dangled the commission carrot! I will be thinking about this: got to decide what I can and can’t get away with financially. It’s a little sticky because Comic-Con is coming up very soon and that’s always an expensive time just with airfare and hotel stay. :/ But I really like your work, so I will be PM’ing you at some point.
July 8, 2008 at 12:17 am #720625Ohhhh, I love the phoenix! I remember seeing the forest one in person and it was awesome! ….must check bank account….
While hiding somewhere in my head I'm on the lookout for white oriental dragons! Please let me know if you know of any available. Thank you!
July 8, 2008 at 5:59 am #720626Oh man, Nam, talk about temptation!
July 8, 2008 at 12:42 pm #720627Very tempting indeed! I just love her ink and marker art.
