Hello All, I’m from Ontario and its hard to find windstones here. I will buy them from Ebay but thats it. I see so much about the “Grad bags” Please explain what these are??? I bought my 1st windstone over 20 plus years ago, Mother dragon still have her and love her. Glad to have found The windstone sight. IM a happy camper 🙂
I’m relatively new to Windstones – joined at the end of June, but I’ve learned that the ‘Grab Bags’ are VERY Special indeed. I’ll try to describe them…
‘Grab Bags’ are specially painted sculpts that are painted personally by Melody Pena in a variety of designs and colors. Each sculpt in the Grab Bag is one-of-a-kind and the paint schemes may follow a theme (Safari, Leaf, etc). They are personally signed by Melody on the felt pads. They are ONLY available as Windstone Store orders and when they go in the store for purchase you can order one, BUT you will not know which one you get until you open the box! It’s really cool, like a surprise gift!
They are also done in a very limited quantity – somewhere around 80 – 150 in a Grab Bag batch, I believe.
There is a Poad ‘Grab Bag’ coming up – a special livestream of the ‘Poad Parade’ was last evening as a preview of what will be available.

We never know when the grab bags will be put in the store and you usually only get an e-mail right before so you have to keep checking e-mails and as soon as you see they are in the store or if it gives a time, click on the link to go to the store at that time and get one as they can sell out in a few hours or as fast as a few minutes depending on the grab bags and prices. For grab bag pieces that have already been released in the past, look at the sections of the store that say unicorns and poads and where you see one that says grab bag, click notify when back in stock and again if another batch of the same sculpt in released, you will get an e-mail right before telling you they are in store. You can click any pieces that are sold out to notify you when they are back in stock. Grab bag batches in different sculpts and styles have been coming out every two or three months since I joined on here a year ago and usually do not last more than a few hours before they sell out. The nice thing is because each grab bag is one of a kind and signed by Melody, they are valuable just like one of a kind art work and since you don’t know which one you are going to get you can trade or buy and sell once you get yours in. Most people just message others about trading once they get theirs if there is another one they want more. When they are released Melody will put a grab bag class photo up on the blog so you can see how many there are and what colours and styles so you can see which ones came out and which ones you want to trade for. The new poad batch should be coming out soon like probably this week I would guess. I hope that helps a bit.

Hmm… I’ve been subscribed to the store announcements for quite a while- I think since I joined the site/forum- and I’ve gotten plenty of announcement e-mails, but I don’t think I remember e-mails about grab bags! That’s why I was always confused about how to know when grab bag pieces go into the store. I thought people just camped on the site.
But there are e-mails about grab bags? Am I crazy? :O
Maybe I just brushed those e-mails off and even forgot about them, since I’m not particularly interested in poads and unicorns. But it will be important when the grab bag dragons begin!By the way, welcome, zoey!

No, there have not been announcement emails for grab bags recently. There used to be, and it generally crashed the store. You just have to watch the site.
Hi zoey, welcome to the Forum. Grab Bags are the ultimate Windstone craziness, with a lot of people trying to buy pieces at the same time! I hope you are able to get a Grab Bag Poad (if you want one) but if not, Melody will do more Grab Bags in the future.

If you press the “notify when back in stock” button on the last batch of whichever grab bag you are interested in then you will receive a back in stock email when the next batch is released. In the case of never before released sculpts, such as the colt and tadpoads, there was a “new in store” email a couple hours before they were released.
I will be very surprised if there is advance notice for the Grab Bag adult Poads. They don’t fit either the “new sculpt” or “back in stock” categories. It would be nice to be wrong. 🙂

I think we’ll probably have an announcement email since this is a new “color”. Just like the white cat wizards or violet flame emperor.

When the young unicorns came out, I got a new in store announcement through my e-mail. So new grab bag pieces that haven’t been released before will be e-mailed if you sign up for the e-mail notifications.

Good to know for the future! I imagine that when the GB dragons come out, I’ll get a new in store e-mail, and for future batches, I’ll do the “notify when back in stock” thing.

Welcome to the forums and the site- I’m like you (long time collector, but new to the site), but I can tell you right now that this is one of the most friendly and kind-spoken communities in all the internet! The folks here are supportive, informative, kind, and helpful. Poke around, make some friends, and ask away if you have questions. If we’ve had a Grab Bag for the same item before, for example “Baby Unicorn – Grab Bag edition,” we do not do a “new in store announcement” but just restock the “Baby Unicorn – Grab Bag edition” and in doing so release email notifications to everyone who had pressed the “notify when back in stock button” on that item’s page. If the Grab Bag has a different theme (natural colors as opposed to fantasy colors or some difference from a previous batch) we update the product page with the new information. If you are interested in any future Grab Bag items that we’ve already done – press the “notify” button on the pages of those items (at this time that would be Baby Unicorn, Young Unicorn, Young Poad, and Tadpoad grab bag editions – I think that is all of them!).
When a Grab Bag item is one we’ve never done before, like the upcoming adult sized “Poad – Grab Bag edition” we will usually put out a New In Store announcement for it announcing the time it will be added – HOWEVER – there are times when activity on our site is very heavy and announcing that something highly desired will be “put into the store at 3:00” means that tons of people will be on the site at 3:00 causing our site to run extremely S L O W making it very difficult to add anything to the store… If it looks like making an announcement ahead of time will crash us, we might not make the announcement ahead of time. It gets a bit tricky at times, keeping humans and computers happy all at the same time! Keep in mind that “stalking” our site and pressing refresh a million times or running a script to notify you of any changes on the site (auto refresher) will cause it to slow down terribly. Melody tries to make enough of a Grab Bag item so that everyone who wants one can have one – which is why we limit them to one per customer.
I hope that clears things up a bit.
