Hi, I havent been on here for a while. I have been dealing with a lot of stress. If y’all dont mind I would like to vent and ask for a favor on top of giving you guys some information on a website you might not have known about and might be able to help you or a loved one.
On top of this being my last semester in this school, I have had to deal with my boyfriend getting sick and having an emergency surgery and my closest aunt almost dying due to her cancer surgery. My aunt, thank god, is doing better and has help with all of her situations (her story isnt why I am writing this). My boyfriend, on the other hand, is still struggling. When he was hospitalized they found out that he had ripped his intestines with an abnormal stool (I wont go into detail lol)and needed an emergency colostomy. The hospital told him they would take care of him. Well, after the surgery there were some complications and had to stay there for 7 days. After 7 days he was kicked out with shady activity coming from the hospital.
The 1st appointment with the surgeon he looked at my boyfriend and said that he will not help him any further until he pays most of his bill to the hospital (he is the only surgeon in the area specialized in this). We still havent even got the bill from the hospital. A few days later we received the bill! $80,000!!!! We told the hospital that he was just laid off a few weeks prior and he doesnt have insurance. They said to find an insurance that will cover it.. That is like finding a needle in a hay stack. No one so far will take him much less pay for something that happened back in November (he was rushed to the ER on my bday). We have exhausted all the resources I know of. We have tried getting help from the government. That was a dead end. We have tried “free clinics”. They are not free and arent equipt to help him. No help from insurances and we cant get anyone to give us anymore information. On top of the bills, we also have to try and buy his supplies. For 1 month supply it is over $100.
Well, there was a little light in the horizon. Some people at school had mentioned a website called giveforward.com. They are based on fundraising to help people who are in need. I have started a fundraiser for him to see if we can get help from the people of this country and countries from around the world that wouldnt mind helping a bit. It is impossible for us to come up $100,000 (old bill and reversal surgery) on our own. He cant work because no one will hire him in his condition and I go to school full time and go to work part time at a minimum wage job at the school. I am trying to get the word out about this website and see if I can get help for my boyfriend. You can donate anywhere from $1 up on this website and the trasaction is safe. If you donate or not I would like to ask for a second favor. Can you share the word of my boyfriend’s fundraiser. Word of mouth, social media, something to help spread the information.
If we cannot come up with the money, he will be stuck with this bag on his stomach. This is suppose to be a temporary surgery that is to last 4 to 6 months while he heals from the stitches. He has been in the bag for 4 so far with no doctor appointment to see if he is progressing. With his complications that he is having with this procedure still, I dont see him lasting too long with this. I am watching his health deplete even though this was suppose to help him.
I am asking you for your prayers, thoughts and time. I am not really asking for money, but if you can and want to donate I will love it and appreciate it very much! I am asking to spread the word for the fundraiser to people who want to help and spread the word on their side. The main page for the website is: http://www.giveforward.com
The page with my boyfriend’s fundraiser is: http://www.giveforward.com/jgdillonfundThank you guys for letting me vent a little. I cant really talk to anyone around here. They are always too busy….
February 23, 2013 at 6:05 am #893748So sorry to hear about the everything you’ve been dealing with. What a great idea to try and get help for your boyfriend. I can’t believe how much medical care can cost you there without insurance. Are you in the US? Here in Alberta everything is covered for surgeries and treatments with Alberta health care. I wish it was the same for you there. I will check out your links and see if I can help. If you do get enough people even donating small amounts, hopefully you can raise enough. Best wishes!

February 23, 2013 at 10:53 am #893756Oh my goodness. What a wretched situation! My heart goes out to you and your BF. It won’t be much, but I’m going to make sure to contribute a little when I’m paid next (end of next week). I’ll try sharing this on Facebook, too, and you’ll be in my prayers.
That’s a secure website to pay through, right?
Yes, the attainability of medical care in the US is extremely pathetic. Kinda makes me scared to be alive.
Edit: This fundraiser ends in less than 1 month? That’ll be rough raising $100,000 before then! I highly recommend printing and posting some flyers in public places asking people “donate any amount to help save this guy’s life” with the link on there, or something. I think there are a lot of people who’d care, but gotta get the word out there- big time!!

February 23, 2013 at 10:58 am #893757I am so sorry to hear about your boyfriend. My heart goes out to you both. I would Love to make a donation but sadly I only use paypal online.
I think you should write to the Ellen show. She often helps so many people in need so it would not hurt to try http://www.ellentv.com/be-on-the-show/682/
I hope all goes well for him.February 23, 2013 at 3:01 pm #893762Have you consulted an attorney? This sounds suspioucly like malpractice. Hospitals are not allowed to refuse life saving treatment under the law.

Not supposed to but they do and they get away with it.There are many stories like this across the nation that are never heard.I was in full labor with twins and was denied help because of no insurance.[guess they didn’t consider it a priority life saving event]Had to drive a ways to a charity hospital,in full labor and lost them both.I am in no way speaking of the thousands of medical care workers that go above and beyond but we also know many of your hands are tied.It is ridiculous is all.Heard about a medicine that shrinks cancer cells today, ready in 2 weeks,cost-$9,800.oo a month.Unbelievable.
Sorry to hear he isn’t doing better girl.Prayers go out to you both.Every act matters. No matter how small💞

Male Hearth....one day🤞Dream on.February 23, 2013 at 7:58 pm #893774Yes, I live in the US. Suppose to be the best country in the world… Yeah, only if you have money and lots of it. Obama is trying to come up with a health care system, but dont know if it is like what you guys have. My friend from India said that he would have been taken care of there with no problem about money. Greed in America’s health system is rediculous. I am not talking about the doctors that actually care. They are ran by the health care system here and a computer has no feelings…. Thank you for caring Kimk…
February 23, 2013 at 8:13 pm #893777Phantomness, any little bit helps. Just seeing all the responses I have so far made me feel better. It is a secure website to make transactions through. I know a month is a very short time to come up with this, but he needs medical attention real soon. In a month, if he has gotten very little, we will use that money so he can go to the hospital and see if he is even healing correctly. If we show up and wave money to pay it up front in their faces they will see him. Then I will start another one with a longer time period to help pay the outstanding bill and future surgery. If I can actually get that much in a month that would be awesome and we could go ahead and start getting everything in motion. With us trying to go everywhere else first, like our government and other places that say they are here to help, we have kinda wasted time and gave me a smaller time period to do the fundraiser.
I want to also thank you for the flyer idea. I never would have thought of that one! I dont know why either, I use flyers when I have lost a dog or found one so I am educated on them.. lol… My brain is rattled…February 24, 2013 at 2:52 am #893802We are trying to find an attorney. There is malpractice with the hospital and with the surgeon, but it is difficult finding an attorney that wants to go against a huge hospital down here. They keep telling us that there is a conflict of interest. We are not going to give up though. The doctor didnt do what he was suppose to do and lied to us about doing it.
February 24, 2013 at 2:55 am #893803Cass, thank you for the link to Ellen. I wouldnt have thought about contacting her. I took a look at the fundraiser website and was shocked that they dont take paypal as payment. I only use paypal online myself and I know others out there like us, so I would think they would allow a paypal payment. Thank you for your thoughts anyhow. Imma go check out Ellen’s website and keep my fingers crossed.
February 27, 2013 at 12:46 pm #894024Sorry you are dealing with all this alone Ang..You know I live right around the corner and am always home when not at work.I always have time for a friend and you know it so if you need to come vent, come on over.I can’t do much more than listen and perhaps put up a piece for you to sell here.I am sure some folks will go for it.A little is always better than nothing.

Male Hearth....one day🤞Dream on.February 27, 2013 at 6:00 pm #894029Other than attorneys there are specialists who help in dealing with hospital bills. Because your boyfriend is uninsured the charges on the bill will represent the hospital’s chargemaster rates, many of which will be inflated to several hundred times what that item actually costs the hospital. See if you can get in touch with one of the groups that helps patients negotiate with hospitals to bring the cost down to near what an insured person would pay. Medical-billing advocates help people read and understand their bills and try to reduce them. Check Alliance of Claim Assistant Professionals or Medical Billing Advocates of America. Or see if you can get in touch with some other group like them.
February 27, 2013 at 8:17 pm #894038You might need to go out of city to find an attorney who will represent you. Be sure you find one specializes in malpractice law. There are many different types of attorneys and a GP, general practitioner, won’t have the specialized knowledge you need. For example a friend of mine lived in a small town, worked for the city, was let go for BS reasons— he couldn’t get anyone local to represent him, so he drove an hour away to a bigger town because there was an attorney who was willing to represent him there.
You have a claim if the doctor didn’t inform you properly or you BF looses length or quality of life due to negligence on the doctor’s and hospital’s part. Sometimes all the hospital needs to see is a letter on legal letter head to get their act straighten out.
Much luck to you

Sun Dragon Koi #3March 5, 2013 at 8:55 pm #894287I was thinking…… about having an auction or raffle of a personally painted pyo windstone by a well known forum member to raise money for my boyfriends medical supplies. I have been trying to spread the word for the fundraising website and we have raised 125 dollars so far, but we are going to need another approach to this. What are your thoughts on this idea? Which one should I do, raffle or auction?
To everyone who has helped me with my issue, whether thoughts and prayers, shared media or donated, I thank you. Your deed will be passed on and never forgotten.
March 5, 2013 at 10:24 pm #894289Unfortunately there can be a lot of legal complications that go along with raffles that are pay to enter. Auctioning off the piece by taking bids would probably be less of a headache for you. 🙂
