I’M SO PISSED AT THIS EBAY SELLER! UGH! So I’m sure quite a few people saw the ruby fledgling listed on ebay that was being sold by [removed by moderator]. I’ve been looking for one of those for sale for YYYEEAAARS as I’m sure many have. I was the high bidder at $202 and there was SIX DAYS left! I was planning to bid WAY way higher closer to the end of the auction. Well this afternoon I get an email from the seller saying she’d noticed some “residue” on the front of the dragon. She cleaned it off, CANCELED ALL THE BIDS and sold the thing for $250 to someone who bribed her. I’m angry that I didn’t get a fair chance to win it fair and square of course but I’m more angry that she didn’t 1. Cancel the bids, add the information about the residue and restart the auction at her opening bid of $40 (or even at $200) or 2. add the information about the residue and give me a chance to DECIDE whether or not to cancel my bid OR if she was in a hurry to get cash, restart the auction at 3 days not 7. I have been messaging her all afternoon and she keeps saying things like ‘oh, well I didn’t want to have my item returned because the buyer is unhappy’ and I keep telling her SHE DIDN’T GIVE ME A CHANCE TO REPLY/RESPOND/ACT OR ANYTHING! For all she knew, my high bid could have been $1,000 and she sold it for $250.
And really, if you’re a seller and your auction more than quadruples the starting bid in the first few hours, WHY ON EARTH would you end the auction early to sell to someone besides the high bidder?! Or sell to anyone! Anything could happen. I’m sure there were more than 10 people watching it. I’ve got something up for sale on ebay and there are 6 people watching it only a few hours after I listed it. I got an email from someone offering to buy it out right for my opening bid. No, sorry, bro, I’m letting it run to the end because I obviously don’t know what the listing is worth. If he wins it for the opening bid, that’s cool, if it goes higher, well, that’s what ebay is about!
AND I’d bought something else on ebay and the seller has been VERY rude. I’ve never had such bad luck with people on ebay all in such a short period of time.
[MODERATOR NOTE – I did not remove the posting, but I did remove the seller name. It is against forum rules to post specific eBay user names, per rule #5. http://windstoneeditions.com/forum/windstone-forum-rules-guidelines%5D.
March 8, 2015 at 3:49 am #926531Sorry to hear that. I haven’t had any bad experiences recently but that’s because I haven’t been buying much recently but in the past I had a couple nightmares to deal with there that I have ranted about before. Personally I have asked sellers before if they would sell their piece outright if they didn’t get other bids but I wouldn’t ask that if a piece had bids already. I have had items listed on there before where I had like 10 watchers but ended up with no bids so I guess it’s a chance we take as sellers if someone offers to buy the piece before there are bids. With that said I have cancelled listings before that didn’t have bids and sold them to people here instead only to have someone message me and say they were going to bid. Well if they had bid or had let me know I wouldn’t have cancelled the auction. If an item does have bids, I don’t think that is right for a seller to cancel it but maybe she was thinking that was a good offer she got. It’s hard to say as no one knows what something will be bid up to. Anyway I hope you are able to find another ruby fledgling. That is one of few I don’t have either although I am not looking for one myself but can let you know if I come across one.
Looking for rainbow or pink & teal grab bags!
March 8, 2015 at 6:42 am #926538What a mean thing to do! I’m sorry this happened to you. That person should have contacted you, at least! 🙁
Oh well… hopefully there will be more. I’ll let you know if one comes up.
Keeping an eye out for fantasy gryphons and test paint dragons.
March 8, 2015 at 3:18 pm #926552Wolfen – I’m sorry that happened to you. As you say, it is so FRUSTRATING. If you are talking about the Ruby baby Oriental that sold recently, it looked as though red paint had run onto the pad so the dragon might have gotten wet at some point. You may have had a lucky escape.
Take heart – you never know what will show up tomorrow!
March 9, 2015 at 5:22 am #926555I was also bidding on this Ruby and I was pretty frustrated to see it canceled and then sold BIN to someone who was clearly waiting for it.
I’m not against that sort of thing at all, I just think there’s a nicer way to do it, you know? Cancelling the bids suddenly and then re-listing it just leaves everyone confused.
I recently sold a popular item with several good offers, but someone else asked me if they could do a payment plan outside of eBay. I knew the person already so I asked if they’d just BIN the item – Which they did. We canceled the transaction afterwards, but at least with the BIN fulfilled I figured it’d be less disappointing to the participants. The listing still says “sold” not “canceled” at the end of the day.
Admittedly I almost screwed myself when eBay asked me for over 400$ in listing fees despite the transaction. Thankfully they credited me the fees, but that was a tiny heart attack, lol :p
March 9, 2015 at 1:44 pm #926561I’m sorry to hear that, Wolfen. I think if a seller discovers a defect/difference on their item and the listing has at least one bid on it, they have a duty to EDIT (not outright cancel) the listing and INFORM the high bidder of the issue. At that point the seller should OFFER to cancel the high bidder’s bid, giving the high bidder the chance to change their mind given the new information. The seller shouldn’t make that choice for the high bidder, and then not even give them the chance to bid again on the new listing.
I hope you find a ruby fledgling soon from a better seller.
March 11, 2015 at 8:11 pm #926642Bullsquid-totally agreed. I’ve been searching for this piece for so long I don’t care if it’s less than perfect. I would have liked the option to cancel or keep my bid.
-_- oh well. Her loss more than mine, really.March 12, 2015 at 2:10 am #926652That seller’s loss- I mean, if it was already over $200 with days to go, chances are high it would have skyrocketed at the end. Maybe you lucked out; if they’re that silly they probably didn’t pack well either. If I see any ruby fledges around here I’ll keep you in mind.
Though I thought (it’s been years) that once there were bids eBay wouldn’t allow the auction to be changed or anything? I put some dragons I had here without any interest on eBay; I left the ad here up and told potential buyers here that I would cancel the eBay ad and sell at the cheaper price here only if there were no bids.March 12, 2015 at 2:01 pm #926668I believe you can cancel ebay listings if you claim there was an error – even if people have already bid. That loophole is used quite often, unfortunately.
I know Wolfen said the piece was a Ruby fledgling, but the last two Ruby fledgies on ebay sold for under $100 each and they aren’t that rare. I think this auction was for a Ruby baby oriental.
March 20, 2015 at 3:52 am #926917Actually It was for a ruby YOUNG ORIENTAL. Fledgling-meh. Not interested. Young oriental-I’ll pay some fat cash if someone wants to part with theirs. The fledgling I mentioned I was only buying to resell. I only recently got a job and have been unemployed with no income since September so previously I was trying to get by anyway I could-you know how that goes 😉 I wasn’t so upset about that but the seller of the oriental was who got my goat.
