My poor girl looks SO miserable! She has to wear the “lamp shade” for the next 10 days!! Do they get used to them? Or just keep bumping into everything? Ugh, they used staples too….
April 2, 2007 at 9:46 pm #490352April 2, 2007 at 9:48 pm #558028My dog when I was growing up had to wear one of those, but it was so long ago I don’t remember the details. I hope she gets use to it and it doesn’t give her that much trouble.
April 2, 2007 at 10:25 pm #558029Make sure she doesn’t have trouble drinking out of her water bowl. We always have to watch that when our dogs wear those. And to be honest, I don’t think they ever get used to them, just sorta resigned.
April 2, 2007 at 10:41 pm #558030They never really get used to them, saddly, but if you live in a large city you might be able to find a soft one. They are flexable, but still stop the dogs from licking and scratching.
April 2, 2007 at 10:45 pm #558031Or call your vet and ask if they have bite not collars. Instead of a cone it’s flexible plastic that velcros around a dog’s neck like a whiplash collar and has a strap that goes behind the front legs. Alot of dogs find it more tolerable than the E-collars. Also, raising the water and food bowls help.
April 3, 2007 at 12:54 am #558032ddvm – that looks perfect! I’m gonna call in the morning. She perks right up when I take the e collar off and drabs right back down when I put it back on. If I can’t find the bite not, I’m gonna look for the ProCollar
http://www.petco.com/Shop/Product.aspx?R=4091&Nav=1&N=0&Ntt=pro+collar&sku=629650&familyID=100555&I wish I knew about this stuff before hand, she would be alot more comfy right now. Altho, maybe she is comfy, 2 pain pills for dinner….I know I’d be comfy.
April 3, 2007 at 1:01 am #558033Good luck with her – she’s lucky she got such a great mom!
April 3, 2007 at 1:16 am #558034😳 I’m lucky I;ve got such a great dog!
April 3, 2007 at 7:52 pm #558035With an almost 11 year old dog that suffers SEVERELY from allergies for most/all of her life I can tell you they never get around to Liking the collars, but they do get used to them. Mine now enjoys tortureing the other dog by using it as a deflecter dish to keep all the food for herself!! 😈
April 4, 2007 at 1:16 am #558036They do get used to them. My puppy had to wear one for a while after he was fixed and he figured out how to scoop up a ball into his collar to play with it.
While hiding somewhere in my head I'm on the lookout for white oriental dragons! Please let me know if you know of any available. Thank you!
