September 2, 2008 at 4:43 pm #731075lol….ok…um
Donovan Josua—Donovan, in respect to Chris’s grandfather Donald..who allowed me to stay in their home for a couple weeks while I was homeless…giving me a place to stay out of the generosity of their hearts, when they did not know me. Josua, out of respect to Chris’s childhood friend, who died of cancer at the young age of 15.
Vivacia Raine— Vivacia, coming from the word vivacious, meaning full of life…also the name of a ship in a fantasy novel. I fell in love with the name and the meaning of it. Raine, out of respect for a man who taught me about art, and how to look at life in a way that helped me survive when I was nearly totally alone.
Aurora Melody— Aurora, meaning morning light…also a name which Chris insisted on, he’d had it picked out since forever. Melody, partly in respect to an artist who inspires me very much, since I picked up a brochure at a shop when I was homeless, and carried it with me for nearly the next ten years. Also, I simply love the name.
K…the cats would be next….
Kashka–our butchered attempt at the name Katie in Polish..after an exchange student friend from Poland. Very nearly the russian word for cat…snort.
Andromeda–after the star system. As a kitten she was soooo ugly at the shelter…I felt bad for the scrawny ugly little kitten..and made up for it with the prettiest name I could think of. She grew up to be quite beautiful…turns out siamese cats arent all that attractive as kittens…lol
Lydia–she came with that name…and oddly it suits her…she has such a sweet personality, and Lydia has such a sweet ring to the name
Cosmo…I havent a clue where Donovan came up with it… it was the classic little kid scenario. The cat had been hit on the side of the road near our house..and Donovan comes to the door with the classic puppy eyes and the “Can I keep it?” I was sunk…I couldnt say no. 😳
Reese….Chris named her after his favorite candies…Reese’s pieces. her spots do look peanut butterish.
The lizards
Kirby–she ate like a vacume cleaner when we got her, no kidding!!!!
Luna–after the char in JK Rowlings stories…I’m a hopeless fan. 😳 Plus she’s white, which is a less common color for a beardie.
Mushu–lol….he’s red..and Donovan’s a fan of Mulan…
My stuffed Snow Leopard I sleep with is named Herman…after Herman Melville…classic lit. 😆
MY GOD what a long answer that was!!!!!!!!!!!!!
September 2, 2008 at 4:50 pm #731076Yeah, but what a great answer! Thankies! 😀

September 2, 2008 at 9:28 pm #731079they stay in the tank unless they’re supervised. They get out and take baths in the bathtub, and also like to ride around on my shoulder…sometimes we’ll let them down on the floor, but only if the cats are not in the room. 😉
September 3, 2008 at 6:08 am #731080I like your childrens’ names. Some people will give their kids strange und unusual names just to be strange and unusual, whether the names sound good or not. But the names you chose are lovely.

There’s a poor girl in my office named Thumbelina. I dont know what her parents were thinking…
September 9, 2008 at 9:14 pm #731082One of the most “interesting” names I’ve heard was Aquanetta (like the hair spray Aquanet).
September 9, 2008 at 11:18 pm #731083I think the weirdest I’ve heard was Younes, but I don’t know if that’s ‘actually’ weird, or just… not common in Alberta…. haha.
Oh well, my last name could be a first name, so at least my name isn’t a repeat. Like Ryan Ryan would be (only my last name isn’t Ryan… it’s a more common last name then that, I’m just not willing to say it on an open forum).

Do you mean Eunice? Or is it really spelled your way? Eunice is an old-fashioned name, but not that strange really.

Spelled like I spelled it. He’s my lab partner so I needed the spelling. That one threw me for a loop…
September 10, 2008 at 2:18 am #731086wow…those are some different names… I wanted something individual, without going too far into freaky. 😆 I really like it when I get to hear other parents unique names they’ve picked for their kids, so I can go…see! I’m not THAT odd! 😆
