WOW! Very nice! 😀
LOVE the touch of gold on the wings! 😀
Big thumbs up! 😀
January 25, 2007 at 8:37 pm #532318I really like it, though I preferred it without the gold in the wings personally, but maybe that’s just the photo giving me issues. I think it came out awesome though, and blended well.

Now when I put it on, I did cut it 50/50 with retarder, but it still went on really thick. I quick got a baby wipe and took most of it off. On the brown it looked like I painted gold right over it, not subtle at all. On the lighter colors tho it was fine….
Oh, one other thing….I noticed that the paint seemed to be rubbing off really easily. Mostly on the back, and I touched up most of it. I took my rings off thinking this may have been causing it. I really noticed it when I was antiqueing(which was a pain in the as*). I wonder if maybe I didn’t let it dry long enough??
Both. Interference comes in heavy body and fluid. If you are going to keep the heavy body, I’d suggest cutting it to thin not just with retarder, but with some polymer emulsion (or even possibly water if you have none), since adding to much retarder (you would probably need a lot to get a real workable consistency?) can make the paint take a while to dry (and sometimes not dry at all).
As for drying, when was the last coat of paint applied before you antiqued? I usually have to let things dry many, many hours (I think Nambroth recommended at least 6 hours, but I usually wait a full day) before I feel comfortable rubbing or wetting the piece. How thick the paint was applied matters in the drying time as well.
As you figured out, on darker surfaces, the interference doesn’t really “flash” a color; just paints that color.
Your wolf looks great 🙂 Nice work!
January 25, 2007 at 9:34 pm #532320The only thing I would change is the shiny finish, I wish it was matte. The wings aren’t AS gold as they look in the photos. I took them with the sun right on her so the color would show up. In everyday light it’s not so obvious….
Thanks for the heads up about the interference paint! My Micheals doesn’t have a great selection of the fluid colors. I may try Liquitex next, they seem to have much better selection at my store. Maybe I’ll try folk art paints, dunno…
January 25, 2007 at 10:16 pm #532321You can apply a matte finish over the other glossy coat if you don’t like the gloss. It’ll tone that down right up for you.
January 25, 2007 at 10:27 pm #532322Any one inparticular that you know is actually matte? This can does say ‘matte fixative’….
January 25, 2007 at 10:50 pm #532323Hmm, I know of no sprays…I always brush my finishing coats on by hand, though I have been thinking of converting over to a spray. I use Delta Cermacoat or any of the smaller bottles of matte finish. They are definately matte. It sounds like you have something like a satin finish…which is sorta between gloss and matte. Bogus you didn’t get what you paid for but at least you can use it on dragons. In some cases, I coat my KiRin mane in matte and the scales in gloss…its a real nifty-fun look.

I second that. 😀
