We don’t have enough of them! We’ve got the Foo dogs, Winged wolf, Kitsune, and possibly the Barong (?), but I say we need more!
recently I was thinking about PYOs, and I realized we don’t have many canine options compared to felines! So I was dreaming up what kind of Canine PYOs would be nice to see, and here are my doggo ideas:
1. Sculpt based on a Spaniel dog, like those lovely staffordshire dog figurines. I’m admittably biased as my sister has a Cavalier spaniel whom I love. But all spaniels are dreamy.
2. A sculpt of an elegant Sighthound, maybe greyhound/wolfhound/Borzoi. They’re basically unicorn deer dogs. They are majestic. I think they’d look quite nice with an elegant chain collar.
3. Cerberus, who doesn’t want a three headed dog? Triple the love, triple the drool, and triple the food budget?? Maybe each head could be different, one has pointed ears, one with flop ears, and one with…I dunno, fluffy ears?
Thank you for coming to my presentation, here is a picture of my nephew Jackson:

Not currently open for PYO commissions.January 13, 2023 at 2:32 am #1667212I don’t remember if I ever put it in the squeak thread but something like pyo pebble dogs would be nice, especially if there was an ear up version and an ear down one to help cover a good number of common and popular breeds.
I don’t know how well canine sculpts sell so it may not end up being worth the investment to make compared to popular fantasy creatures.January 13, 2023 at 1:08 pm #1667228Cats are a good subject because they turn into loaves, and are easy to cast. Also a cat is pretty much a cat, no matter what breed, ( well, except the weird ones like hairless ones and muchkins)
I have avoided doing real dogs because:
A. There are too many breeds to cover. People want their own dog breed!
and
B. Sanicast, United design and a half dozen other companies had pretty much flooded the dog sculpt category!January 13, 2023 at 4:54 pm #1667254Mika – Oh yes a pebble dog would be so cute, I’d back that squeak!
Melody – I can see that, there are so unique looking breeds and you can’t cover them all. BUT, I still think you could sculpt an awesome Cerberus, though I don’t know if that’d be hard to cast…maybe a puppy cerberus would be easier?

I work in animal rescue, and often joke that there are only two kinds of rescue dogs: If the ears point downward, it’s a Lab mix; if the ears point upward, it’s a Shepherd mix! 🙂
Go on Petfinder and search for ‘Lab’ and you’ll find 999 “Lab Mix” dogs, ranging in size from 20 lbs to 200 lbs, and in color everywhere from solid black to white with polka dots! And the same for “Shepherd.” 🙂 So I think having an ‘ears-down’ and ‘ears-up’ dog sculpt would definitely cover a lot of ground! But I’m also fine with the dogs Melody has already given us; between the dogs, wolves, and foxes, we have quite a lot of canid representation, really. <3
(Unless Melody wants to make a Greyhound. Then it’s full steam ahead; I’d be all over that! I have a gorgeous one from another company, Country Artists, but they’re apparently not producing them anymore and I want a bunch so I can customize them!)
