Well, I finally got my Male Kirin…
The box he came in, it’s about 4″ deep
Inside the box, literally two pieces of bubblewrap
He’s in one piece!
But, he either was really beat up before I bought him or he really fought with that box. (He did, but not all chips and scuffs can be from that)
Chips:

Where he fought the box, first with his horn then with his feet:

January 22, 2008 at 4:34 pm #658524Oh my how unbelievably stupid some people are. 😮
January 22, 2008 at 5:32 pm #658525😯 I’m glad he made it in one piece. I don’t know what feedback I would leave either. While they didn’t follow your instructions (reason for negative) the piece arrived in one piece (reason for positive). Were any of the chips disclosed in the auction? If not that’s another reason for negative. How has communication with the seller been?
I would at least put “Did not follow packing instructions for fragile item” in the feedback.
January 22, 2008 at 6:10 pm #658526You would think that someone who previously own a Windstone would know better then packaging it that way!
If there was no small chip pieces in that box or in the wrap , chances are that the chips were there before it was sold to you. 😕
Good luck on whatever you decide.January 22, 2008 at 6:26 pm #658527*shakes her head* That’s terrible packing. I’m surprised there wasn’t more damage…
January 22, 2008 at 6:26 pm #658528First thing I think you should do is start communicating with the seller and explain your concerns as youre doing here. See if they are receptive and level headed. If they freak immediately, then theyre hiding something. See what you can work out with them and at least get an explanation as to why it wasnt properly packaged not only to your specifications, but in general, why theyd package such a heavy fragile item in a layer of bubble wrap only, allowing it to move freely about the box with vigor.
The only reason it didnt arrive broken is sheer luck. Seller gets no credit for that in my mind. There is NO way Id give them a positive for this buy. Id be debating between neutral and negative. What would help me decide is the communication you have next.
Keep us in the loop!
January 22, 2008 at 7:06 pm #658529I can’t believe somebody that owned a Windstone could be that dumb not to know how fragile they can be and do a good packing job. I think even after I contacted them and they were nice about offering to do something about it I would probably give them either a neutral or a negative. If you give them a positive in the comments below where you assign stars I would give them the lowest score possible for shipping
January 22, 2008 at 9:07 pm #658530Well, going back and looking at the auction photo he had the chip on the knee, and the chip in the front hoof before. So more than likely the rest were from before as well, I didn’t find any paint chips or dust in the bubblewrap. (Which honestly surprises me even more)
I’m waiting to hear back from the seller. I got a deal since it was a hidden auction but, I’m just a bit annoyed with the fact that I paid alot more than the shipping cost on the waiver. It would have been fine if she followed my instructions. She didn’t. I doubt I’ll leave her a negative but, I’m not giving her positive at this point. I’m waiting patiently for her reply.
January 23, 2008 at 2:01 am #658531If I’m not mistaken, I purchased the mother kirin from this seller. I did get nervous when I saw the condition of the box. It looked like she’d had a rough trip. But she was very well wrapped with bubble wrap, especially around the horn, and it took a while to carefully cut it off. After reading your post I took her out of the curio cabinet to examine more closely. She does have two small rubs at the very base that look like normal wear. Other than that she is in mint condition. I left positive feedback. I think I got my baby kirn from you. Sorry to hear yours did not do as well.
January 23, 2008 at 3:48 am #658532Boy did that kirin luck out! The way he was packed, he really should have arrived busted, it’s a miracle he’s in one piece!
I am sure you can fix up the chips.

January 23, 2008 at 9:49 pm #658533So, the seller finally got back to me. She says that she didn’t get any instructions about shipping. And that there’s only one chip, and it was shown in the auction photo. Which there was the chip on the knee, and the bottom of the front hoof. That I could see.
I honestly think that these chips are from before but, I don’t know for sure. Since it was packed baddly.
Anyways she offered me my money back if I decided to send him back. I declined. So, I’ll fix up the chips (whenever I get around to it, knowing me I’ll do it somewhere around next Summer…. 2009) 😆
January 24, 2008 at 2:35 am #658534Did you send your instructions with payment through paypal or send them along to the seller directy using my eBay? I’ve tried sending seller’s packing instructions through PayPal but they never seem to see them.

I have the same problems most of the time. That is because sellers don’t read all the way down the page when they get a payment. So not I send the same message through ebay and paypal. I also send myself a copy of both, so if a seller tries to deny it well you have proof that it was sent from two different sources.
