Back when I went to see a specialist they told me that services were not covered under my insurance policy. I brought in my insurance rider to prove that they were and even had a pre-authorization letter. The office told me that they talked to the insurance company and only my first office visit was covered but I had to pay out of pocket for everything else. Sooooo after spending over a thousand dollars to see this doctor I get a letter in the mail from my insurance company saying they paid the doctors office for my care. WHAT?! So now they have been paid twice! I called the insurance company and explained that the doctors office charged me upfront and now they have been paid twice. The insurance company told me to march down to the doctors office with my paperwork saying they have been paid and demand my money back. After I get my refund they want me to file a complaint against them since contracted doctors offices are not allowed to charge members upfront for services they provide when its covered under the insurance company. I’m so mad right now!
Oh, I would be mad also. I hope something good comes out of it tho. Maybe you will get money for the baby or Windstones.
Hopefully the doctor’s office is cooperative and refunds your money right away.
If they give you any trouble, one possible option is to see if your insurance company can take back whatever money they gave to the doctor and reimburse you with that money.
😕 I hope that gets straightened out without any trouble and you get your money back. And I’m glad at least your insurance is upfront about things!
Grrr! I would be mad too! Make sure the doctor’s office doesn’t play around getting the refund to you. I think they should write you a check immediately or if they need to “double check” things then a week at most. Just don’t let them drag you around for week after week with no $$. If they do start playing games, go through your insurance and let them be your advocates. If that doesn’t work, there is always legal cousel. Most lawyers will write a letter for you for $20-50 and that is usually enough to get the ball rolling.

But you know what? It might actually be an honest mistake. I hope you can straighten everything out. If it wasn’t a mistake, I’d change doctors.

I have to wait till Monday to find out what is going on since the billing office for the dr said they would call me back and never did. Now the office is closed so I can’t do anything about it until Monday.

Find out what hours the billing office is open and go down there. That is when you will get the best results.
Its out of state so I can’t just go down there. Its a billing office that takes care of like 30 different doctors offices.
