Hugs!
I’d have been bawling my eyes out all night…
Read my books! Volume 1 and 2 of A Dragon Medley are available now.

I host the feedback lists, which are maintained by drag0nfeathers.
http://www.sarahjestin.com/feedbacklists.htmOctober 15, 2008 at 12:41 pm #736424Oh God how awful. I’d have been a wreck for a week.
But so good of you to stay with the poor thing. That poor dog and those poor kids. 😥
I hope those idiot owners learn something from this, and don’t just blame you.
October 15, 2008 at 12:52 pm #736425at least you had the sympathy and was will to do something. So manny people would have kept driving or purposely stepped on the gas to hit it thinking,” they should have controlled thier animal, not my fault.”
Like i siad before in another post, up in alaska, it was different. In alaska, people acted more like you did and it is nice to see that people like you are still around.
I’m sorry the dog got hit Kyrin, but I am happy that you did much more then a lot of other people would have done.

But considering the circumstances, my only options were to try to stop or swerve, I drive a Toyota 4Runner, swerving would have likely meant flipping the truck, and I have people depending on me, I just couldn’t risk that manuver.
I just wish that there had been more distance between us when he dashed out, a few extra feet would have made all the difference, he still might have been hit, but it wouldn’t have been so severe and he might have survived.
Oh well, there is no point in the what ifs, but damn these things upset me.

That kind of stuff tears me up too. We hit a yellow lab on a country road. We werent going to fast and he got up and trotted away. But I still have trouble driving that road. My stomach knots up into a tight ball. The only thing that I’ve found that helps with animalls like bigger dogs and deer, that don’t turn and run back is to aim for where they are when you see them dart. They are a lot more likely not to be there when you get there. I’ve missed several animals this way. Not all, I still hit the dog mentioned above. I’m glad you comforted the dog in his last few minutes. Thats the best you could have done. Like Koishi said. Not many do that anymore.
October 15, 2008 at 3:40 pm #736427Irresposible pet owners piss me off! That poor dog. At least he had you to comfort him. I hope you are ok. You did all that you could do. You bout brought me to tears when you said he started wagging his tail.
October 15, 2008 at 4:43 pm #736428Words cannot describe the sympathy stomach turnings I know you are having Kyrin….I first read your story yesterday and just felt sick. I am SOOO sorry that happened to you and the poor pup, my heart and soul goes out to you, the dog, and the kids who lost him.
Coming from the home of a veterinarian I’ve just about seen and heard it all, if you are anything like me, I understand the empty, helpless, just sunken feeling you must have, and am sorry.
I send much love, and the thought that in the end, you have to know that Lab forgave you with all of his love.

October 15, 2008 at 4:57 pm #736429I am sorry that happened to you that is everybodies nighmare. Its such a shame people don’t pay more attention to not letting their pets run wild and have something like that happen to them. That poor pup and those kids that loved him.
October 15, 2008 at 8:26 pm #736430Thanks everyone for your kind words and sympathy, it means a lot. I’ve seen a few ads for free pups, and have seriously considered getting them a new dog, but then, what if they don’t keep that one penned up either and the same thing happens?
But I sure wish I could do something, but on the other hand setting up another dog to get hit wouldn’t be good, 1500 is a busy road, if you live there it is imperative you keep your pets confined in a safe place. The fact that they’ve been reminded many times to keep that particular dog in the yard, indicates that they aren’t very responsible. So in retrospect perhaps a nice sympathy card will be best.

October 15, 2008 at 9:34 pm #736431I am so sorry Kyrin. 😥
October 15, 2008 at 9:43 pm #736432I’m so sorry, Kyrin. *hugs* You did everything you could for the lab – it’s too bad the parents weren’t more responsible. But when dogs dart out like that there really isn’t anything you can do (which I realized doesn’t make you feel any better.) My heart goes out to you and the kids.
October 15, 2008 at 10:05 pm #736433I’m so sorry Kyrin. 😥
October 16, 2008 at 2:57 am #736434I’m sorry that happened to you, I know how I would feel 😥 . *hugs*
October 16, 2008 at 4:27 pm #736435I’m SSOOO sorry for what happened. I HATE people that do not care for their animals properly. I hope you are OK. Maybe the puppy was not really being cared for properly and it was in the big picture for this to happen??
I hope you feel better soonOctober 17, 2008 at 1:04 am #736436There’s a reason I don’t let my Dog(s) off leash down at the Dog park until we’re out and away from the Parking lot, and put them back on before we’re back to it. And it sure as hell is not because they’re vicious!! 👿 (we’ve heard them call there dogs back because ours were on their leashes in the middle of the Parking lot and they were saying exactly that “Our dogs Must be vicious if they’re on leash”)
