All things considered, our move didn’t go as badly as it could have. Nobody dropped the piano or smashed a carousel horse, so… out of morbid curiosity, does anyone have a moving horror story? cringe

Not really truly, though the driving 26 hours straight felt like one at the time :P. One move, though, (don’t remember all the details since I was a teen at the time, so I don’t know how they got away with it), the people buying our house only gave us 3 days to clear out. So we loaded teh truck and a rental boxtruck to the gills, but still had some stuff we couldn’t fir in (my bike was one of them 😥 ). A relative nearby was supposed to go over the next day to get our stuff and hold it for us as we were moving out of state. The people wouldnt let him take it though, so we lost my bike to them, and a big TV, and I don’t even remember what else. That ws a nice bike.

You mean something like dropping our 200 gallon saltwater tank and smashing it to pieces while 7 years of coral dies in the dirt along with $2000 worth of gasping dying fish?
Nope, no horror stories here 😯 😆

I know they used to do that a lot… when we moved from NJ the people getting the house wanted us to get everything out in like 4 days.. and we ended up leaving a lot of stuff behind… you can’t really fit a 3 story house into one U-haul truck and a station wagon….

that was back in the 80’s though… they’ve changed all the rules now…

Oh! And then there’s the garage door story 😆
We were putting the boat away in the garage. The garage door is one of those roll up type that hang down a tiny bit from the opening of the garage…
Backing boat up the driveway went well. Then, the tallest part of the boat (tow tower) catches the rubber seal of the door. I thought the seal would stretch and let loose. Nope 😯
Whole freaking garage door comes off of the rollers and the hinges go springing everywhere!
He pulls the boat out from under the garage door panels, gets out of the truck, looks at me and says “did you miss that part about holler if I’m not going to clear it” 😳
                We called a couple places for repair/replacement. $3000 😯
Luckily, my hubby is very handy and strong! He sent me to the barn so I couldn’t “help” anymore. When I got home, it was fixed. He had to pound the rails back into place and find all of the rollers (some of which had landed in the neighbors yard), but he did it!
He asked me later, if it were my horse trailer, how loud would I have been shouting at him that it was caught on the door. He had a really good sense of humor about it.

Other then breaking a cart by attempting to haul a 200lb + (the cart was tested to 500lbs…) stereo from the 50s that didn’t even work? Let’s say it went down to the garbage in pieces. No way were we going to haul it after that.

That and the cat peed on me half way between Fox Creek and Whitecourt. 😛

Oh wait… the apartment we just moved into, they almost didn’t let us move in! They tell us at the last minute that they need everyone there to sign the lease THAT day. My dad lives in freaking Valleyview… 😆 They took a fax eventually.

We moved back and forth several times when I was a little tyke, so I’m sure there were some horror stories from Mom and Dad, though I wouldn’t remember them.
Phoenix, your anecdotes were amusing – in retrospect. Sounds like your hubby is a good man. 😉

That fish tank incident would’ve broken my heart, Phoenix. 😥

But hurrah for your hubby saving the day with the garage! I can imagine how far those bits went flying!

Not quite a moving horror story, but a selling a house horror story. When my parents moved from Montgomery to Auburn (less than 60 miles) they had a friend from church who was a real estate agent list the house. Well the house sat and sat for months. They eventually found a new realtor (I think after 6 to 9 months). Then they had someone make an offer on the house, but things fell through.

Then Hurricane Opal came ashore and all the way inland past Montgomery and Auburn. Once the hurricane was over my dad went to check the empty house in Montgomery for damages. The winds had been so strong that some water came in around the chimney flashings and damaged the hardwood floor in the living room. Both of those were eventually fixed.

The house finally sold after being on the market from 18 months. That really sucked for my parents to be paying two house payments the entire time.

LOL, Mike is a good husband. And has kept his sense of humor over the 13 😯 years we’ve been married.
He still shakes his finger at me about the garage door, though as the rules go, the statute of limitations runs out next year and he can no longer bring it up 😆

We built our dream home and before we could move in, hubby’s job changed. Didn’t even get to spend one night in it… We wound up living in the in-laws motorhome for three months before we were able to find something to rent here in Soda.

We lost a piano. It wasn’t tied securely enough and when the truck went uphill the piano tipped over and
SPROING keys and pieces went flying everywhere.

I was only moving about 5 miles so a friend of mine loaned me his truck and several guys hoisted my riding lawn mower into the back of it. When I got to the new house I opened the tailgate then decided to move the truck a little ways. Bad decision – the lawn mower went flying out of the back and crashed on the driveway. Several of my new (and unknown) neighbors came running over and righted it. Luckily it survived.
