Melody, I bought a Mouse Wizard as a Christmas present to myself (a White one!) last month, and I’m completely in love with it — so I thought I’d ask why it seems to be a discontinued sculpt. As far as I remember, it was only made in the three original colors, not any of the newer releases — no Ruby or Black Gold (wow, that’d make for one pretty MouseWiz!) or Red Fire… why? Please tell me nothing has happened to the mold, a la the poor Gothic Uni! Did it just not sell well enough?
What I really want to see most, even more than new colors, is new mouse-colors — what about a black mouse, or an Essex http://www.afrma.org/ratmkd.htm#essexrat, or a Lilac (http://www.miceandrats.com/sel_lil.htm), or (one of my favorites!) Black&Tan (http://www.miceandrats.com/tan_bla.htm)?
Unsurprisingly, I’m sure, 🙂 I’d love to see the hypothetical “new mice” released in White robes (I could start a Wizard conga-line!), but I’d be happy with, say, Black Gold or Amethyst too… squeek*
Interested in buying or trading for: GB Pebble Sitting Red Fox in dark grey, Lap Dragon Test Paints (Water Sprite, Glacial Pearl, Opulence, Pastel Rainbow, and many others - see my Classifieds ad), Blue Morpho OW, GB Pebble Loaf dragons in blue/aqua/teal, and Griffin Test Paints (Black Rainbow or Frosted Jade).

I could do some special ones for ebay, but we don’t have enough cast to do a store batch. We have been concentrating on griffins and dragons so much I have forgotten about other pieces!
January 18, 2010 at 11:39 pm #803065Grr, everything goes to ebay! I can’t afford ebay! Personally, I’d much rather wait on casting for them to get enough together to release a batch for the store. I know casting has been having issues per gypsum in part, but having seen the Ebay Cart thread, seems like there are a few sculpts there that could have been released in colours we’ve been waiting for in the store 😥 I’d have been excited beyond the moon about the Wizard cats mentioned but I know they’re going to ebay, so… :shout: 😥
As for the Mouse Wizards, they are beyond cute! I only have the peacock but if I could find the emerald and the white in very good condition and at reasonable prices, I’d scoop them up right quick. New colours on Mouse Wizards… 2 mega thumbs UP! Since we’ve waited for mice this long, *this* member would not mind waiting longer for a larger batch so that they could be sold in the store where we all could afford them. Lots of rodent lovers here, so you know they’ll sell!

January 19, 2010 at 3:02 pm #803066Hand-painted or complicated pieces go to eBay because they take so much longer than Normal Production or most (if not all) Limited Production pieces.
Another thing to consider is that for it to be a store piece, the batch has to be pretty numerous. Twos and Threes of an item aren’t good for the store.

And that’s a shame because while I know the griffins and dragons are money makers, it leaves people who don’t collect those sitting and twiddling their thumbs waiting for something they do collect. I mean, I like the griffins and the dragons, but the main portion of my collection is (or at least used to be until I got the griffins I did) the hoofers.
I didn’t care for the black pegasus (the out of order rainbow wings irked me enough to not like them) and I’ve never really cared for the white unicorns (everyone does white unicorns) so my collection is smaller since I have all of the white pegasus family and all of the black unicorn family. If a new color of hoofer came out that I liked I’d be on it so fast.
I was both extremely pleased when I saw the picture of the ebay cart Pam posted with some hoofers on it, and extremely disappointed when I saw how few there were.
January 19, 2010 at 11:30 pm #803068The ebay cart I saw had a bunch of griffin chicks- certainly enough to make a batch of the ones seemingly most squeaked for (myself included), the Beagle or BW Spotted Griffins. Understandable if the Savanahs can’t be painted in bulk. And the Large Flaps… not hard to make the B&W new versions. For the amount of Stray Eds that have gone to ebay, a batch or two could have gone to the store in store colours. I couldn’t see the hoofers perfectly but that colouring didn’t seem too much of a task to do for the Unicorns.
I’m just saying, I remember a time where Windstone always had tons in the store. I also get there is trouble with casting however, it really seems the bulk of sales are thrown to ebay and the same select (and gosh darn lucky- so I’m happy for them) ebayers get tons of special pieces and regular folk are left panting in the store. Other than smaller than usual batches, that is also why everything goes out the store in minutes.
And I agree with Pegasi in some ways. If there were new coloured hoofers that came out, I’d be on them like a horse fly. As long as they stay away from the traditional white everyone does, and try something new and has colour to it (nothing complicated, just colour), I’d buy the family from the store. I understand complicated colour patterns but Melody is blessed with exceptional talent in this business which is why Windstone is where it is. I’ve no doubt she could handle about anything.

Oh, man! Mice and cat wizards! I would love to see some special ones. You definitely need a time machine to have time for everything on your list of things to do! 😉

You just answered your own question. The casting problems are the #1 reason we are not seeing a lot going to the Windstone Store. It has been.. gosh… a year? A year and a half? Maybe longer… since Windstone had normal casting up and running and making lots of pieces. It was before the factory moved. So, it has seemed that in the last year+ the bulk of pieces have gone to eBay.. this is true!! You need to remember that Windstone moved with a lot of ‘unique’ eBay only pieces, especially from Olimpia. Those pieces were all that they had to sell for some months. I think it’s very fair to say that Windstone is doing everything they can- to some pretty great lengths- to get casting up again so that they can not only make LP stuff for the store, but regular production (which really hasn’t happened in forever) so that they can ship to their dealers too… since that is their bread and butter.

My art: featherdust.comJanuary 21, 2010 at 9:12 pm #803071the mice…when they were available…were production right? the more complicated paintjob pieces that used to be production…are they gonna be the least likely to come back to production availability, even though they used to be? Because some of my favorite pieces in my collection are ones that are the more intricate paintjobs…such as the mermaid wall sconce for example. These mice are another excellent example, as well as the wizards, the sea jewel mermaid in natural tones…the kirins… I love the fact that the time went into them, and the detail work….and it kinda makes me sad to think that sort of paintjob won’t be available to people that buy production pieces any more. Though I do understand the need to cut costs and get things into the store as often as possible. It just seems the complication of paintjobs available thru production has become less and less as time goes on. I hope I made some sense there….. just voicing concerns as a customer. I’d especially love to buy a couple kirins in production colors…
January 21, 2010 at 11:12 pm #803072I’m obviously not making myself clear, or there is something you’re not getting from the way I put my words together. So, I give up. Oh, and I’m not blaming Windstone for anything. I know they go to great lengths, trust me.
As for the mouse wizards, they would be awesome in any colour to come out. They are darn cute and I’d love to have them in any colour, simple or otherwise. If the actual sculpt isn’t retired or lost, me thinks Copper Patina would save the day as it has for many other sculpts lately!

January 23, 2010 at 3:35 am #803073I was thinking about these and colour schemes. I’m not a fan of pink, however, in this instance (being a teen of the 80s colour fads), a grey mouse with pink robes would be kinda cool. But only if there are enough squeaks for it, obviously. Other than that, I’ll still buy any store mouse in any colour (but if it’s silver, it has to have some other neat complementary colour. I like silver, but like white, I need more of a colour punch).

January 23, 2010 at 4:54 am #803074The difference with the ebay pieces is that they nhave one or sometimes 15 pieces, far cry from the hundreds they need of each sculpt for the store. Also many of the special eBay pieces were cast before the move, and the casting issues.
