I’m starting to write things down for me to look at later [if I still have my wits] of days of the Autumn of my life and right before Winter. It isn’t pretty but it can be downright funny. This is a time when I give up trying to regain that girlish figure I used to have and not worry so much about a new wrinkle or two. It’s either accepting yourself as you are or in my case, throwing up your hands and just not giving a damn anymore!

Not only is my body falling apart but everything around me. I have a house full of appliances just waiting to betray me and they are old! I hold my breath each time I do wash in my almost 30 year old washer and hope this isn’t the day it stops and if it does stop to please do it during the spin cycle when no water is in it. When we first bought this washer we were told that it wouldn’t ‘dance’. You know, wobbling across the floor during the spin cycle which is usually caused by an unbalanced load–but the moment the washer senses that the load is unbalanced, it immediately stops and gives off that annoying, constant buzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz! :shout: For years it worked this way–true to the promise of the sales person who sold it to us–but then that was almost 30 years ago. It still does the job but it now dances, vibrating the wall between the utility room and the kitchen.

So to remedy this, and I know when it’s dancing, I sit on top of it to weigh it down. Forget rearranging the load because that takes more time than it’s worth and it still dances! Well this last week, as I’m sitting on top of this thing, I remembered a skit some time back on the Carol Burnette’s Show. Hey, there’s nothing else to do while sitting on top of a ‘gotta dance’ washer. The skit takes place at a laundry mat and Carol Burnette and Vicki Lawrence are doing their wash there because of one reason or another. Well as they get friendly, the Vicki character confesses that when you lean against the washer during spin cycle that it gives you quite a thrill. Uh hm! But as the skit progresses the women do become hostile to each other and the Carole character blurts out to her to ‘Go spin dry yourself!’ XD

Weird thought to be thinking while I’m sitting on top of a washer during spin cycle and believe me, it wasn’t exciting! All it did was make my fat giggle and believe me folks, that is NOT a pretty sight. I imagined in my mind if my husband were still around and he came in and caught me sitting on the washer. Why he would passionately whisk me off and stuff me into the car and that minute, he would take me to the appliance store to look for a new washer. How’s that for ‘exciting’? πŸ˜†

At last the spin cycle was over and so was my day dreaming. You become a bit numb while sitting on something like this and it took me a while to get the feeling back into my legs. So the washer has survivied another load of wash and I sigh a sigh of relief that is one expense I can put off for now. I then gave myself credit for being able to hop on top of the washer much like how elderly women brag that they can still climb the stairs!

People used to ask me–‘A penny for your thoughts.’ This is why they want their money back! πŸ˜† 😈
