You can go to the FDA website too. I looked last night and Purina was okay. No recalls of Purina food that I could see. πŸ™‚

Isn’t Purina one of the original recalls? I seem to recall reading a connection between Purina and Menu foods, but perhaps that recall is over and they are okay now?

Cooking for your pets is very hard, feeding raw is much easier, as cooking removes many of the nutrients. feed a food with no grains, you have noticed that all the recalled foods first wheat gluten, then rice, now corn gluten. Here are a couple of foods that are grain free:

I feed the Orijen, my dogs are doing very well on it.

    BARF pre-mixed food:

If you do go with BARF do not tell your vet, very few will agree with it, because it is very hard to get the minerals and vitamins balanced. You also have to feed raw bones as well, weather ground or whole. It is very costly, 3 bucks or more per pound, keeping in mind it is wet, so a pound isnt that much food. I have fed it in the past, and my dogs still get raw bones, marrow bones, chicken, turkey, lamb, whatever I can find, but getting everything else in balance can be very hard, and it is very time consuming.

They have a food product called BARF?!! LOL πŸ˜†

Kitty threw up blood this morning. I’m calling the vet. He’s always had some problems that the vet could never figure out, but he NEVER threw up blood. I have a huntch the dark spot on the carpet upstairs is the same thing from last light, but what I saw this morning was less than 2 min. old, and totally blood. Or, he got into pink Kool Aid…..wish we had pink Kool Aid.

He seems to be ok right now. Grumpy. That’s always a good sign 😯

I called Walmart, and they said purina isn’t on the list. I looked up Purina, and called the vet, and both said they aren’t on the list either.

The other thing I’m thinking is, we’re having problems with our trash people picking up our trash, and there’s meat in there that’s been there since Monday night(trash pickup is Tues morning) and I’m wondering if he got into that.

It isn’t really a food, its more a way of feeding it stands for either Bones And Raw Food, or Biologiaclly Appropriate Raw Food.

I give my cat Tuna and fish from the market also left over chicken from the sunday roast and meats etc if they havent got anything else. Don’t let them stuff their faces though and try and get some dry stuff to keep their teeth nice and healthy πŸ˜€

Hmm…I feed my dog a mix of Canidae and Solid Gold…are these on any recall lists??? They weren’t on the first list I saw weeks ago, but I havn’t seen an updated list…. πŸ™

arlla, i just went out the other day and got canidae. i checked out a bunch of different companies for pet food and i really liked their philosophy/homegrown ingredients, etc. also it was very similar to nutro ultra which i’ve been feeding my troop. the recall won’t apply to canidae at any point, as all of their ingredients are from the US. phew!! peace of mind there. πŸ™‚ timber wolf looked good too, but canidae was easier to get, and its what my chins’ mom fed her before she came to me. its actually the recommended food of the chin club of america, lol. its nice that they have no processed forms of rice, so there is less filler. looking into organix it was a little deceptive, as only some of the ingredients were organic., i was really surprised. hmm. i’ll stick with the canidae, timber wolf etc.

That’s still a hilarious acronym for something food-related XD
