shandi, I really feel for you, things will turn out fine

DM and ruffian, you complain about your gas prices, over here it’s 150 kr per liter making it over 2 dollars per liter, and since a gallon is 5 liters, the gallon is a little over 10 dollars, causing the first real wave of protests in Iceland

Ouch! $10? I couldn’t afford to drive the 5 miles to work!

My job really messed with my hours also, putting me deep in the hole. Being one of the BoA cardholders who got stuck with astronomically higher interest rates to bail out their fannies doesn’t help either- I don’t have the extra $100 they want on my credit card payment this month (no I haven’t used it recently, this is the 1st bill since the increase). On top of it all, I had a lump start growing under my nose a couple months ago, I’ve always been told insurance at work sucks so I never went to the doctor. It started being problematic though, so I finally broke down and did (at least that they help with). Now the doctor is yelling at me, he thinks it’s maybe a tumor or cancer instead of an abcess like I figured, he wants me to get CAT scans and MRIs and specialists but the insurance won’t cover them so I can’t. I don’t have anything to sell to raise that kind of money even so why worry about it. It may still be a stubborn bone abcess or a benign tumor, had benign ones before.
However, I start a new job tomorrow YAY! Less pay per hour to start, but more hours, more frequent raises and they’re eyeing me for management. I’m told they have decent insurance also, AND vacation, AND sick pay…:) Plus maybe i can do both jobs for a short time and try to get out of the hole.

Oh pipsxlch, sorry to hear about that! I hope you’ll be okay. Considering the health industry is viewed largely as one big racket, I can’t blame you for not going. They don’t have the patient in mind, just how much they can make off you. I hope your lump isn’t anything serious.

I hate BofA!! Ever since they got a new CEO and he fired all the top-ranked female employees!!! That and the $12 a month they took out of the checking account because they could! As if the consumers should bail out BofA for this mortgage mess!

Good luck with your new job! I hope you like it better than your current one!

From reading stuff in Yahoo news, from the governments point of view we haven’t hit a recession yet… they are saying if things keep going like they are that a “recession is possible” LOL

              POSSIBLE??? Hello?

              #686008

I’m in the same boat. Credit card rates making them barely payable. The every day costs of living rising faster then your income. Doctors want you to go for all sorts of tests, MRI included, that the insurance you’ve been paying for each month, doesn’t cover until you pay off the deductible.

The suggestions that others have made for finding a part time job are pretty good. You might also contact a temp agency. If one position doesn’t work out for you, then you can try something else.

I like the term they’re using to avoid the R-word: “stagflation.” Has anyone else heard that yet?

We got 400.00 back in our tax return which went to get the bills caught up and then hubbies master cylander went out on his truck. Back in the hole again.
We are very active in our church and I emailed them to let them know we would’nt be there last night. We just couldn’t afford the gas or hubby would have had a really hard time getting back and forth to work. I got a email back that said come and they would fill the truck with gas, that they loved us and wanted us there πŸ™‚
I was given a envelope when we got there and I didn’t open it till we where heading home and they put 60.00 in it so we don’t have to stress out over how we are going to pay fot gas this week.
This church has truly been a GodSend, when ever we’ve had problems they’ve come through for us.
My horse got really sick a while back and ran a very high fever, I asked the church to pray for him because I just didn’t have the money to take him to the vet. When he was still very sick the next morning we drove to the Vet and he agreed to hold a check. My horse was sick for 5 days, antibiotics and pain injections we almost lost him. I gave the Vet a hold check not sure how I was going to cover it when a church member came forward and paid my Vet bill but wanted to be kept secret. It wasn’t a small bill either!
I love my church and my Pastor, they have been there for us more often then I think I realize. πŸ™‚

What do you think those silly little checks are for that are coming out in May… so that us poor foke will go on road trips and buy their gas at $4.00 a gallon….. they think we’ll spend on “stuff” when it is more like gas and outragous bills! Its SAD! πŸ™

It’s rough. Because I’m self employed, I get to pay extra taxes and double on my social security (that, with the way things are going, I may never see a dime of). I had to pay two months worth of income on my taxes this year. I can’t afford health insurance so I am playing Russsian Roulette hoping like crazy that neither my husband nor I gets sick. I really wish I could get some more of my allergy medication but I honestly can’t afford the doctor visit nor the prescription all out of pocket. Then there is stuff like car insurance. Even though my husband has a perfect record, because he is male and under 25, our insurance is crazy, crazy expensive.

Those of you that don’t live in the US- is your cost of living very, very expensive? I ask because your fuel/gas/petrol costs are so much higher than ours. We are always told (and I can understand) that the cost of goods, including and especially things like shipping and groceries/food, goes up to reflect the rising costs of gas. So my quesion is that- over there with gas being so expensive- are your basic necessities such as foods, groceries… are they way more expensive too?? πŸ™
If our gas has only gone up about 1 dollar in the last year or two and yet our groceries cost so much more, I wonder how bad it is overseas?
