To our customers who often choose the Money Order option of payment:
I’m sorry, but we have removed the Money Order option of payment from our store in an effort to make things work more smoothly. I thought I’d give you a “heads up” so that you are not surprised when you do not see it while you are placing an order. Payment needs to be made at the time of purchase by means of Paypal or Credit Card (we use paypal to process the credit card payments even if you do not have a paypal account). I apologize for this inconvenience.
(In case you are curious: We cannot reserve items for you for future purchase – and we do not offer any layaway services.)
February 19, 2014 at 1:05 am #908969Oh dear. I don’t have a Paypal account or credit card so I always choose the money order option. My mother has a Windstone account, too, but to avoid any possible issues regarding multiple accounts she never uses her Paypal to pay for my purchases, even though it would be cheaper for me. Will it be okay for us both to use the one Paypal account from now on?
February 19, 2014 at 1:11 am #908970Anime gal – Yes, its o.k. if you and your mom use the same paypal account.
February 19, 2014 at 1:13 am #908971If you have questions about this change – please feel free to email me at susie@windstoneeditions.com – I might answer them more quickly if you do that than if you ask the questions in this thread.
Again, I apologize for any inconvenience.
February 19, 2014 at 5:55 am #908974I will e-mail if I remember to but am just wondering if there is a way to buy anything with an option to pay on paypal within a day or so or if it has to be immediate? I like on ebay how if you win an auction, you may have a couple days to pay for something. I am just thinking with upcoming grab bags that how would we know how much money to have available if we don’t have notice of when they come out? Sometimes I have to take a day to transfer money between accounts to be able to pay for things so I only ever marked money order to have enough time to transfer money and then pay through paypal. I just hope I don’t miss upcoming pieces if I don’t have the money immediately accessible.
Looking for rainbow or pink & teal grab bags!

Ebay is an auction site where you are invoiced by the seller, which is a completely different setup and business model. The Windstone store is a store, not really any different than say a grocery store, hardware store, clothing store, etc. in that you pay for an item when you go to the register. The only difference is the store and register are online. This is not any different than Amazon or Barnes and Noble or any other online retailer. They just happen to sell a different product.

Yep! And because of how few people work at Windstone to fill orders, it also makes things much less of a headache if payment is fulfilled at the time of purchase.

Is it possible for you to get a credit card that you link to your PayPal account? Credit cards ARE a way to “buy now, pay later” if they are managed properly.
Life is beautiful.

There are also prepaid cards that you can refill (you can get them at Walmart for instance) that you can save and put money on for when you want to use it to make a purchase through paypal or online if you don’t have a credit card account. They are safe because they aren’t linked to a bank account, and you can use them online like a credit card. There is also the option of putting money in your paypal account (yes, there are pros and cons to the storing of money in your paypal account, depending on your particular situation and paypal usage).
February 19, 2014 at 8:13 pm #908992eBay can make you pay immediately for things but only with BINs. It would only work with auctions if ebay required you to deposit enough money into their system to cover your bid before you placed it (I have used auction sites that work like this).
February 19, 2014 at 8:44 pm #908993The only thing I worry about now is during grab bags, it’s going to be a bit more difficult to buy things for fellow forum members who aren’t online at the time of release unless we have the money up front to cover their purchase for them. AKA, no more “watching the store” for people basically.
Also, Paypal is blocked at work for me, not Windstone though so even though I can post, I can’t buy unless it’s a money order… good thing I just got a smart phone. Haven’t tried to buy something on it yet, but I guess I’m gonna have to.
Got a busted Windstone?

Kim, Paypal has a new service called “Bill Me Later”, which is an option that’s similar to a credit card. It sends you a monthly statement for purchases, and then you pay once a month. You can setup a Paypal account with debit cards, credit cards, Bill Me Later, or to draw funds from your Paypal balance. Hope that helps.
February 19, 2014 at 9:39 pm #909000While this certainly IS a change – this is much more in line with how most retailers operate and is going to save Windstone a ton of headaches and a lot of unpaid orders.
Realistically – without the ability to reserve products with MO and without people being able to watch the store for others, I think we’re less likely to see grab bags sell out so fast. A lot of people (myself included on occasion) would use an MO to hold a product until pay day or something. Now we have to pay up front so folks who can’t afford one won’t get one until they have money.
I also think this will lead to less scamming of the system.
It will take some adjusting to and certainly some of us will have to do some better planning around purchases (or sometimes miss a new product!), but ultimately I think it will be a much better system.
February 19, 2014 at 11:39 pm #909004I didn’t realize some people may have used the money order option to reserve purchases for a longer period until they got money in. I never thought of that so that makes sense that Windstone would want things to be paid for right away. I only ever bought anything if I had money in my account at that moment but that it may have taken a day to transfer it from savings to chequing. I do have a pre-paid credit card but it is loaded with money from my chequing account and any little money I save, I keep in my savings account, not my chequing account so it takes a day to transfer money from my savings account to my chequing account to my credit card. I guess what I was thinking is for example with upcoming grab bag dragons how would we know how much money to keep in a chequing account or on a credit card if we don’t know what day they will come out or how much money they will be? I guess the only thing I can think that would solve that is if Windstone announces future grab bags maybe a day or two before or at least tells us how much money they will be ahead of time to allow people to transfer enough money in time. If they are announced a day or two before as well than that also solves the problem of having people watch the store or try to put in orders for other people. The last couple of grab bag batches didn’t even sell out for a day or two so I assume if there is enough stock to go around that it would be safe to give us notice of when to expect them which would also give people an opportunity to expect when to have the money available.
