Never had a mouse in my house–maybe because I have dogs. I have to admit when I first saw the title of this post I was thinking ‘what are mold mice’, you know green, moldy–and thought it was a new critter Melody created!
March 20, 2010 at 10:15 pm #808500Depends on the dog. My last house was surrounded by cornfields, which led to an influx of mice every winter. (One memorable day I caught 9 – I barely had time to put the trap down before it was blinking at me again!) While I generally prefer live-trap and relocate, in that situation it was simply not feasible. But I also have a 90-pound retriever, and on at least two occasions when I heard mice, I looked over to see the mouse scampering past inches from Adam’s nose – while he stayed sound asleep.
March 21, 2010 at 12:14 am #808501I have small dogs–the kind that barks at the wind if it blows too hard. So mice would have a hard time getting around them! 😆
March 21, 2010 at 3:57 pm #808502I have 1 cat in the garage, and 4 in the house…If there is a chance one makes it inside, he/she will be very sorry. A couple of the cats might only play with it, but there is bound to be certain death for it in the end. I’m not sure what a 130lb dog would do with one though. Although, I KNOW if he got ahold of a squirrel, it wouldn’t have a snowball’s chance in hell of surviving. 😕
March 24, 2010 at 3:14 pm #808503My parents have a husky as the family pet, and she is a better mouser than some cats I’ve met! She catches them coyote/fox style, by pouncing with front feet and nose. She also keeps the yard clean of moles and we never have rodent problems when we camp with her… XD

My art: featherdust.comMarch 24, 2010 at 4:19 pm #808504I have 3 cats – all strictly indoor kitties. They aren’t, as we discovered, not very good hunters. We had a freaking squirrel in the house the other day. We suspect he fell down our chimney. I caught him nomming on the cat’s food. The cats were all beside themselves 😆 . Even the most ‘wild’ of my three kitties was unsure about the intruder. A squirrel is a little bigger than the the occasional moth or house fly I suppose 😆 .
March 24, 2010 at 5:24 pm #808505About a year ago, we had a mouse in our basement. All the cats did was sit and stare at it. 🙄

LOL! I have a feeling my cats would do likewise.
March 24, 2010 at 10:00 pm #808507Whenever it moved, they jumped back. And when it ran into the closet…they just turned and looked at us.
March 25, 2010 at 5:51 am #808508My cat tries to catch squirrels. I don’t know what she’ll do if she actually catches one though since they are half her size  I just think its funny to watch her try 😀 We have two rat terriers and one of them is actually what the name says. One time we tried to save a mouse our cats delivered to us alive and before we could get a bowl over it the doggie swooped in and got it 😮 She’s a very quick hunter. She also loves to chase squirrels but hasn’t managed to get one yet…hopefully never because she actually could take one on.
March 25, 2010 at 2:41 pm #808509Ours catch anything and everything and then have to bring it home to be praised and told what mighty hunters they are… Last year it was ermine and rabbits in the winter. From spring to fall we get all sorts of rodentia including rock chucks and they also like to bring home snakes. Pixel, our little female tabby, weighs about 5 lbs. and she HATES deer in the yard and runs ’em off 😮 It’s really funny to watch. I just wish Loki and Pixel would eat their kills out of my hearing range *shudders* It’s worse than finger nails on a blackboard sound – BLECH!
