All I want to do is see various plans and their premiums for individuals my age! It seems that everything I look at they have an agent getting hold of you and these people never call at a convenient time! I’m going to give it a rest this weekend but come Monday I’ll call some of these places and make my inquiry. I understand they need to check for pre existing conditions and the such but it seems like when you have no income at all, everyone wants to sell you something! Agggrrrhhh! I want to take my time and not have some agent breathing down my neck or coming over to pressure me into a plan I’m not sure of. Of course, I’m old and I can understand them wanting to check me out but damn–just want info first people–then you can grill me when I apply! Oh it sucks to be old and look for medical!!!! 🙄 🙄
January 30, 2010 at 3:55 pm #804328Ugh! I know what you mean. Sales people climb out of the woodwork.
If I’m just doing an initial inquiry, I’ll put a note in saying contact by email only and then give my phone # 555-123-4567. 😀
Then I knew the companies that could follow directions!January 30, 2010 at 4:45 pm #804329it sucks to be young too. blue cross black balled me for having a “pre-existing” condition” when i was sick and my parents coverage ran out.
the last insurance I had was state insurance and they kicked me as soon as i had surgery.so yay! no insurance!
January 30, 2010 at 6:11 pm #804330It looks like insurance companies don’t want to cover anyone! That’s a good suggestion Phoenix–that’s what I should do. I did have an agent call but he wouldn’t leave a message–he called about 3 times–I could see a strange name and phone number on my phone. Now that bugged me–if you’re calling on business then let the person know! Makes me wonder about him and would I want to do business with this person! I’ll probably have to wing it like a whole bunch of people and hope I don’t get sick or get hurt!
Scratch the sky diving lessons!!!! XD
January 30, 2010 at 6:59 pm #804331I know with me, they had an agent come to my house. The Agent jotted down that i had sinus infections and my medical records got sent in.. but the agent was sure I would get accepted. 1 months later we called her and she was shocked we had not heard anything. She said we should have by now and she called them. She came back to my house very shocked looking and said they black balled me and explained what this meant. Her face was very genuine, they did not even give HER notice about my application. They just stamped it and filed me and WAITED.
So yeah, the was a few years ago but I am not confident any changes have happened for the better.
January 30, 2010 at 8:14 pm #804332My husband is diabetic…and that’s a nightmare of it’s own. 😮
January 30, 2010 at 8:24 pm #804333Looks like if you’ve been sick or have ever been treated by a doctor, you’re excluded! I remember years back a nurse wrote this elogent letter stating as such–I was working for a regular insurance company–not medical and our insured driver got in an accident with her. She got injured but–now get this–they were denying certain injuries because she had previous injuries/medical problems with that area!!! Think it was her knee–she had some knee surgery and in the accident her knee was injured as well.
She wrote this letter to the claims adjuster and it was classic saying pretty much that you insurance companies seem to exclude body parts that have ever been seen by a doctor. She named a procedure [had something to do with your anal] and stated would her @sshole be denied if it were injured in this accident. We were all cracking up—knew where she was coming from. {Just because we worked for an insurance company didn’t mean we were on their side.] This was over 30 years ago but I still remember it. It just comes down to it with insurance companies–pay up and don’t ever use us!!!!!!!! 👿
January 30, 2010 at 8:47 pm #804334I know Canada isn’t as bad for it as the states (what they’re gonna cover, they cover whether it’s pre-existing or not)… but I found out that the 24hr insulin that I’ve been taking for 3 or 4 years isn’t covered because it’s “too new”. 🙄 And then they said a group coverage might actually cover it. Maybe. And of course testing supplies aren’t covered and they’re surprised that they ever were for me. 🙄
So I know the frustration.
