Does it seem like people with small dogs sometimes pretend like the animal doesn’t need training just because of its small size? 😕 My best friend’s mother has a chihuahua who literally bites people’s ankles until they bleed, and she still insists the dog is “too little to hurt anybody!” The dog even had half its teeth kicked out once by a neighbor who it attacked and tried to bite. Apparently the neighbor wasn’t amused.
July 9, 2008 at 1:59 am #721250Well, I didnt want to go back and talk to the woman because she gave me an annoyed look as I was pulling on Shadow’s lead…and although it was just a look…and could have been misinterpreted, because I only caught a glance (I was keeping more of an eye on her dogs)…I got the impression she was annoyed with me for existing, and felt it was more my fault for simply being there…she also never once offered any sort of apology… I think I might not have kept my temper too well with her if I went back, not to mention it wouldnt really do much good…other than waste my time and raise my blood pressure. 🙄
However, calling and putting in a complaint is a very good idea, and one I’ll definately take. I hadnt thought of it myself…my irritation was in the way I suppose. If my kids had been with me, one of them may have easily been knocked into the busy street or bitten…but simply because I fear stuff like this..the dog and I do our walks alone. It’s just safer in the middle of town.
I’ve worked alot with Shadow on our walks….he’s such a big dog, I feel it’s really important to have control over your animal as an owner. 90 lbs of dog can do major damage to a person or another animal without even meaning to….I suppose as a mother I’m also a worrier…but it would horrify me to have shadow jump up on an elderly person or child… I’ve run into lots of small children on my walks that are absolutely terrified of dogs…because of bad owners who dont control their animals. It really ticks me off…because there’s no excuse for it IMO. 👿 Of course…I am blessed with a dog that’s super willing to learn and not too hard to train…I’ve noticed he learns fast and remembers pretty well. 😀
July 9, 2008 at 5:52 am #721251That is terrible. It reminds me of this show on Animal planet called, “Its me or the dog”. I like watching that show before I go to work. I have learned a couple of things from it. There is always room for improvement.
July 9, 2008 at 12:01 pm #721252hah! I watch that show now and then! it’s a pretty good show…but an important thing is the owners at least have to acknowledge there’s a problem by calling Ms Stilwell to help. People who think their dog’s horrible behavior is acceptable are the worst! 👿
