I didn’t get off work in time to go to the Cape and watch the launch from up close, but it was clear and bright from my house- could even hear it today (can’t for all of them). Sorry it’s just a contrail pic- I didn’t think to bring my camera outside. My husband said something after we’d watched for a few minutes, so I had to run inside and find it quick. The local news stations (like cfl13.com) are hosting viewer’s pics, so you can see more if you want. It just sucks- for the local economy and even more for our country- that they’re mothballing the shuttles before they have a replacement for them.
Anybody else down here get better pics?
I still have my scrapbook I made in middle school about the original Columbia launches. I remember being so excited about it. I never dreamed that I’d see the Shuttles just end with no replacement – even then we were speculating and daydreaming about what would come after them, but like the moon shots (which I don’t remember) we’ve just . . . stopped. Hopefully this won’t be as much of a terminus as that was, since we do have the space station up there that has to be kept supplied.
