I really like the way the colors progress on his sides. In a few places the brown scales almost look like they’re flecked with red and orange; it reminds me of bloodstone, except for the base color. A very nice effect. The way the white creeps up along the bottom and sides of the scales on the lower sides of the body is also really neat.
My hat is off to you for the way you manage to apply light colors–in this case white–to just the tops of the scales and avoid getting it into the antiquing in the grooves of the carving. You used it here on the wing webbing and it looks great. Having tried this kind of thing . . . and failed 😛 . . . I know how tricky it must be! Yet once again you take “tricky” and carry it off so smoothly that it almost looks easy.
It reminds me of what Pratchett once said about a swan swimming on a lake: all grace and calm on the surface, but one hell of a lot of activity going on below where you can’t see it. Your finished product is always so polished, but you put a lot of work into these. And that’s why the result is so polished! 😀
I actualy did the usualy all black. but I use pretty thick black..and when i smeared black on the belly i shouted at myself inside my head,” S***!!! why did i that!” Cause that part I wanted to paint white..,.and i put black base on! UGH. and i did not want thick paint on this one…so I had to sensitively put on thin paint layers of white. Then i antiqued with black again…but that still got some black on the white..but not a lot…so I mixed white with some pearl and acrylic base and gently went over the white again to clean it up and sharpen the white over all. it actualy worked out real well. With just the pearl, I thought pearl was to striking, but it looks real good when you mix it with the white. it makes it shine only when you turn the dragon.
Well, it looks great, and very tidy. 😀 I’ll have to remember what you said about mixing pearl with white: I tried using pearl recently and it came out looking too bright and flat. Next time I’ll mix it with the base color.
hehe, he reminds me of icecream with chocolate syurp and a cherry on the top. ^_^ He’s very pretty though!
I got my keeper today. sleep was not going to be much any ways, so i decided to start painting it. not much yet. almost ready for metalics:

oh!!!!you are right nam!!!! i figured i would just do it myself. i forgot they usualy come with the black.
Things are, uh, a little hectic at the factory right now. They forgot I think. I’ll shoot an email to them and let them know for next time!
