Someone pointed out in the the new thread that the seller sent an image with a seemingly forged signature of Melody’s on the bottom of the pad at the person’s request. Hopefully this is just someone who has been misinformed about what they are selling and not someone intentionally trying to pull a scam.

My art: featherdust.comFebruary 5, 2013 at 7:39 pm #892733FYI: the seller has added a note to the Trio of Dragons listing saying that they purchased these pieces from an estate auction, signed but no box or COA, and as they “are not an expert”, they can’t vouch for authenticity.
Of course, as with all such details added after the fact, this is in small print at the bottom of the listing, and no photo of the signature is provided. (Another forum member did ask the seller to see the signature and it doesn’t appear correct to her.)
If true, I hope for their sake the seller didn’t pay anywhere near what they’re asking. But why put an item up for that kind of price without researching what they have first? Let alone multiple such items? I have a signed first edition of one of Robert Heinlein’s books that I picked up when I was young and dumb…no provenance. Do I think it’s real? Yes, based on comparisons with verified signatures. I’m not a forensic document specialist though, and it has never occurred to me to try and sell it for what it’s likely worth without verifying that signature beforehand with an expert! The risk is just too high to chance, and a verified signature brings in higher prices. This is even easier–they just had to send a mail to Windstone to find out.
Also note their 79 feedback is a little disengenuous–they have 3 feedback as a seller, all for items under $20. This doesn’t show deceptive intent at all–everyone starts somewhere!–many ebayers won’t deal with new sellers, and this is one reason why. Too bad, things like this, whether fraud is intended or not, make it tough for other new sellers who do things the right way to get started.
Fingers crossed that the bidder is aware of all this. I’d hate to think of someone losing that kind of money.

This is actually a perfect reason for report:
Category: Copyright and Trademark
Reason for Report: Counterfeit item or authenticity disclaimer
Detailed Reason: Disclaimer about the authenticity or legality of an itemFebruary 7, 2013 at 8:57 pm #892826Does anyone know who placed the bid on that piece? I’m only a buyer not a seller so I can’t see anything but the letter’s and thier FB#.
Should they be told that this is not a WS painted by Melody?
That is alot of money for a piece that is only a repaint and not a painted piece by Melody. :~

February 7, 2013 at 9:01 pm #892828The seller has added a statement that the piece was not painted by Melody. It is at the bottom of the listing.
February 7, 2013 at 10:17 pm #892831Unfortunately many people don’t go back and re-read all the way to the bottom any given listing they’re bidding on. We have no way to know if the buyer has been contacted by the seller, or has seen the update. If neither of those things has happened, they will still have some rights through Paypal, I think. What a hassle for them, though.
And eBay has made it basically impossible to contact a bidder unless you’re the seller. That’s mostly a good thing, even if it’s a bit frustrating to us right now.

No one but the seller of that item and the bidder can see the identity of the bidder. It has been that way on eBay for a few years now.
There is no way to contact them, unless they win and leave feedback. This is generally a good thing, as it keeps buyers from being harassed.

My art: featherdust.comFebruary 8, 2013 at 7:00 pm #892862I actually remember when you could send a message to a bidder. And see their full name. Gfdhsjklfhehhhhhhhh am I glad those days are over. The level of anonymity in the system can stink, but for the most part it’s better than the old alternatives.
I hope the bidder on the Dragon Votive is head over heels with that piece, and willing to pay that price just cause they love it. 🙂
February 9, 2013 at 12:28 pm #892885You can rest easy about the bidder on the dragon trio. That was me. Syn recognized my scrambled user name from having sold me a poad before, and she told me about this thread. I had figured it for a repaint anyway, so at first I was going to still bid on it… until I read this thread and found out that “a signature” on the bottom was a forged Peña. I had assumed it was the repainter’s signature. I had the seller cancel my bid.
My keyboard is broken. I keep pressing "Escape", but I'm still here.

🙂 YAY!!! I’m glad that someone knew who you were and was able to stop you before haveing to pay out that much money and it not be what you were expecting. Way to go Syn!!! 😉

I guess someone COULD do a repaint on a signed piece…that would be really confusing!
This is why ours come with letters of authenticity, with a photo of the piece.
I should really start doing that with the raffle prizes too, I supposeFebruary 9, 2013 at 9:27 pm #892911This is why ours come with letters of authenticity, with a photo of the piece.
I should really start doing that with the raffle prizes too, I supposeI always wondered why the raffle pieces didn’t come with certificates.
February 26, 2013 at 2:10 am #893916I noticed them and thanks dragOnfeathers for making sure everybody is aware of this
February 26, 2013 at 2:12 am #893917No worries, if I didn’t I’m sure someone else would have ^_^ I noticed them popping back on and off ebay.
