Webster’s Thesaurus…
Red – a. Crimson, blood, cherry, brick, ruby, vermillion, wine, blush, coral, ruddy, scarlet, rose, salmon, fuchsia, maroon, carmine.
I had to look it up just for fun. I love the name vermillion for red. Blood red is also well known for it’s red hue, but I don’t know what this color is you are talking about.July 1, 2007 at 4:07 am #593177emerald212 wrote:Melody wrote:emerald212 wrote:I like Crimson Flare too. That sounds cool.
Neh, I don’t like “crimson”. It’s too hard to shorten. Anyway, isn’t crimson a dark red color? These are ruby red. I don’t think they are really “scarlet” either,* that is a more of a persimmon red.
*(could I use a semicolon here, or should I make two sentences?)Either one would work.
But not the comma.
Also, you should take out the first “a” in “that is a more of a persimmon red.” It sounds better as: “that is more of a persimmon red.”
English lessons, anyone? Get in line.
Personally I think “scarlet” or “crimson” could both mean whatever shade of red you want them to.
The first “a” was a typo. I for one am glad to have a built-in English teacher! Just no red pencils please, those scare me.“Crimson is a strong, bright, deep red color combined with some blue, resulting in a tiny degree of purple. It is originally the color of the dye produced from a scale insect, Kermes vermilio, but the name is now also used for slightly bluish-red colors in general that are between red and rose.”
Nah, wrong color.
“Scarlet (from the Persian saqirlat or Latin astacus, crayfish) is a red color with a hue that is somewhat toward the orange. It is a pure chroma on the color wheel. It is redder than vermilion. Traditionally, scarlet is the color of flame. It may also refer to the color of the blood of a living person.”
That’s better, but I can’t not think of “Gone with the Wind”.July 1, 2007 at 4:19 am #593178Gone with the Wind dragons would be a bit too much!!
July 1, 2007 at 2:10 pm #593179I still don’t think anyone would write to you and argue the name of the color you decide to use. At least, not any more than they do already.
Most people don’t know those specifics about colors, or wouldn’t care.
Case in point… Emerald. Your Emerald color is a bit light for what I’ve seen real emeralds (the stones) come in. But I don’t argue that because that’s the name you gave that color. So that color is Emerald to me.
So, my opinion is that you should just pick a name you like the sound of and call it that. And everybody else will too.

Oh yeah, that one… you are right, I just choose a name I like regardless of the color! Real jade looks nothing like the Jade dragons either! Serpentine, maybe…
