I make jewelry, mostly stringing beads. I like to use gemstones, crystals and strling siver. I also make my own glass beads in a torch. I can cut my own stones when I have time and I cast things in silver. I want to learn wire wrapping someday when I have time.

My art: featherdust.comFebruary 26, 2007 at 7:15 pm #544373Nam, I gotta say, I spent yesterday afternoon drooling over your pendants. They’re just gorgeous! Especially the ammonite one…
Labradorite is my favorite stone. I have a ring with labradorite in it that I hardly ever take off… I like it because it’s so plain looking in normal light, but tilt it right in the sun and bam! Bluuuue!
I’ve been trying to make jewelry out of clock gears. 😀 So far I’ve only done one bracelet, which I need to get decent pictures of. I slaughtered a cuckoo clock in order to get the gears… it was very, very fun. I need to get another one so I can keep experimenting!
February 26, 2007 at 8:10 pm #544374Nam, do you still paint feathers?
February 26, 2007 at 9:15 pm #544375I doooo! I have a wee store at Etsy: http://sunhawk.etsy.com ^_^
I like making pendants out of polymer clay and playing with glass beads ^_^ Mostly nature-themed stuff but I’ll do just about anything within my abilities
My favourite was the poison arrow frog I did for a friend a few years ago: http://www.deviantart.com/deviation/23713737/

I love labradorites! I have a huge polished piece as big as my hand and it’s got crazy blue and amber colored flashes in it. I love to just stare at it!
I must have had you in mind! I just made my first labradorite pendant. 😀 My website is updated with it if you want to see!I really want to see your clock gear jewelry! That sounds awesome!! 😀

February 26, 2007 at 10:27 pm #544378Have you ever painted a dragon on a feather? I would love to see that.
February 26, 2007 at 10:43 pm #544379I just picked up a couple of beading books today… Like I really should be messing with it! One of them is on loom beading. It just looks fun! And AsH… I make chainmail too! I’ve done earrings, bracelets, keychains, slave bracelets, knights chains and a coif… The person I did the coif for wants a shirt, but I’ve been putting him off for years… Coif was one thing, but a full shirt?!? eep… lol… The easiest way I’ve found to incorporate beads into it is A) use them as dangles, or B) leave a gap in your weave and use a piece of wire with a hook at each end. Needless to say, the dangles are easiest! lol…

That’s so neat… I tried making chainmail once and failed miserably at it. Think I had the wrong materials and followed the wrong tutorial… haha. But I did buy a chainmail slave chain at the Renaissance Fair. I love it. It’s like a normal bead bracelet on steroids. People see it and go “Dude.. that is a KILLER bracelet.” Haha!
February 26, 2007 at 11:13 pm #544381I need to go drag out my stuff… I haven’t played around with it in a long time! If I’m ever out that way, I’ll bring the stuff, and I’d be glad to teach! I used to teach the basics…
February 26, 2007 at 11:37 pm #544382That would be so awesome… Do you need special tools for it? The way I did it was by wrapping wire around a paintbrush handle, then linking bits together. It was lame.

I’ve done a few dragons and gryphons, but sadly didn’t have a camera back when I did them so I don’t have photos of them. :/

Sweet, hopefully you will be able to do more and when I have money to buy a couple.February 27, 2007 at 1:04 am #544385Chessapeaka wrote:That would be so awesome… Do you need special tools for it? I usually use a mandril, but as long as the paintbrush handle is a uniform thickness, it’d work, as long as your wire isn’t too heavy… The hardest part about that (I think) would be keeping an even tension while you were winding. And a mandril doesn’t have to be fancy… We used ones that were just a couple of pieces of wood with a metal rod to wrap the wire around, until one of the metalworkers got creative! If I can find some pics, I’ll send them to you…
And I forgot… You just need pliers and something to cut the wire. End nippers work wonderfully… -
