Okay, nothing nearly so dramatic, really! Just kinda a sneak peek. I had this guy done last week but the weather here has been gray, drizzle and dark and I haven’t been able to get decent photos.
I took this with my tiny desktop halogen lamp. See that little area where the sculpts are sitting? That’s my entire work area! *sigh!* π I am so ready to get my own place… we’re working on that.
This fledge was an experiment, and I know he won’t be everyone’s cup of tea. I felt a little silly painting him these colors as they are definitely not my ‘normal’ palette, but hey you gotta be crazy sometimes right?
He was inspired by and meant to resemble springtime flowers, especially crocus. I’m not sure what to call him.. “Spring Flower”? “Spring Crocus”? “Spring Petals”? Who knows.
As soon as I get a bright enough day I’ll post better photos in the gallery. This one is pretty bad!

I have to say the fledgling’s not my cup of tea. The green “points” look odd next to the purple, especially the mouth. Good luck to those who bid on him.
March 19, 2008 at 11:42 pm #680679Oh that coiled mother is starting out nicely!
I can’t wait to see the finished product. πMarch 19, 2008 at 11:52 pm #680680I love the green on him! Green and purple always works so well together.

scuse me I thought Fledgies where young EMPERORS which would make him a HIM, not a HER!??
I’m sure I will be corrected if I’m wrongMarch 20, 2008 at 12:37 am #680687I’m not normally a pastel-type person, but that Fledgie is lovely! The way you added blue to the tail and the shading of the greens really help make him work for me, and the purple edging on the larger scales is wonderful! I see you also worked in something with a sparkle; it’s managing to catch the light in colors that echo the paint around them, which is quite a trick. π Very nice work, as always! π
March 20, 2008 at 12:43 am #680688The sparkle is ‘magic invisible paint’. π
I think of this fledge as a her. I think it is up to the owner! Melody does often have a gender in mind when she sculpts but she also said it doesn’t matter much- what matters is what they are in the eyes of their owners! π
