I am about to purchase a mint Jade Adult Oriental (it is definitely Jade, not Emerald!) and I was wondering exactly why Jade dragons are so rare? I’ve heard it claimed they are not an official colour, is that true?
January 10, 2015 at 1:49 pm #924070Here’s a thread about the jade dragons from way back in 2006
Melody gives some more detail in posts 14-16.
January 10, 2015 at 4:05 pm #924071Thats a really interesting read. Was the mystery ever cleared up?
I wasn’t sure whether to go ahead nd buy him or not but I’ve decided I will go ahead after reading that!January 10, 2015 at 11:41 pm #924075I am about to purchase a mint Jade Adult Oriental (it is definitely Jade, not Emerald!) and I was wondering exactly why Jade dragons are so rare? The Orientals were intentionally painted “Jade” and sold as Jade. They have been retired in that color.
The other older dragons that turn up with Jade color are mistakes that were labeled and sold as Emerald, so we have no way of knowing how many of them are out there, or which designs were painted like that.
We sometimes paint new dragon designs in Jade but never the older designs, so the old ones in jade are rare.I think I’ve asked this on the forum before, but I’d like to ask again…
How may non-Oriental Jades do you guys know of?? What designs?
Do you own one?January 11, 2015 at 12:06 am #924076I tend to see more emerald orientals to jade orientals, but far more dark peacock orientals to the light peacock ones. I’d say on the rarity level you have
ADULT ORIENTAL
Common – Emerald
Common – Dark Peacock (no teal at all)
Uncommon – Jade
Rare – Light Peacock (has teal)However with Baby Orientals I tend to notice finding THOSE in either the Jade or the Dark Peaock is super difficult while Emerald and Light Peacock are way more common!
BABY ORIENTAL
Common – Emerald
Common – Light Peacock (has teal)
Uncommon – Jade
Rare – Dark Peacock (no teal at all)Weird… but that’s how it seems to me anyway, I don’t know why it is though.
As far as Jades that were NOT Orientals, I have mostly seen Scratchers and Youngs, but I have seen hatching Royalty before on one occassion somewhere on a thread around here.

January 11, 2015 at 2:06 am #924081Someone posted this guy in 2008. Melody said he is “transitional” (quoted below). This is fun, but I think I’ll stop now and go do the dishes or something …
“Yeah, that is one I would call transitional.. (a new term we just made up last week after finding that hybrid male) He has a little emerald green on him but has the gold overlapping the darker jade color, which is how the jades were painted AND he has that extra orange gold color over the gold, like the Jades do. hmmm. So the airbrushers were using that extra gold color when they first began painting emeralds…hmmmm ”

January 12, 2015 at 7:38 pm #924127Drag0n, I have never sen a jade young, do you mean coiled? The scratchers and coiled’s are the most common I have seen. There was also a jade hatching empress or two a long time ago.
The Kinglet looks like regular emerald to me..?
January 13, 2015 at 1:24 am #924163I know I saw a Young before. I forgot about the coiled dragons actually, yea I have seen tons of those.

So I know there are at least 3 for sure. And all were real Jades, no light green on them anywhere. I have one here right now, he’s Laurie’s, I can take a picture if you guys want me to.
