Just curious, what do people use to carve their pumpkins? I’ve used a steak knife and and exacto knife. I’ve tried those Pumpkin carving kits but find the blades are to soft and flexible and I always destroy them.

I use an exacto knife and a very thin jigsaw type blade for most of the carving. To cut the hole in the top I use a much bigger knifelike blade.

Okay… this was a few years ago, and totally makes me look like a nerd, but we had so much fun, we even decorated the van to be the mystery machine 😆

The whole thing started because we found a Scooby outfit for my daughter and it snowballed faster than you could imagine. I was Daphne and my husand was Shaggy. (Of course, the party we went to had a LOT of people who had no idea who we were… )

Thanks! She was just crawling then, so it was perfect. It was hard for me not to have my son be Scooby this year, but I’m letting him be his own dog. 😆

So can you imagine the shock I felt when people actually didn’t know Scooby Doo; I kept saying, “Are you kidding?” 🙄 😆

Here are a few pumpkins I did last year…or the year before, can’t remember…

yes, the one in the left corner is eating a smaller pumkin

here’s a Maleficent pumpkin I did for my grandma’s house

I think I might get the fake carvable pumpkins from Michaels this year and try them out…anyone ever use them? Are they any good? I wonder if you can put candles in them….

I am a super pumpkin carver myself, I’ve actaully won a contest with my raven on a skull one, i can’t seem to find the cd with my pumpkins on it, and last year I did a really great one with a skull and clock scene that I have to download off my cell phone, I did try the fake ones from michaels and they were a nightmare. You have to have a dremmel, and even then, you get plastic dust everywhere, you have to wear a facemask so you don’t inhale the dust, and it reeks of burnt plastic smell. To me it wasnt worth th effort, though I may try one more time so that I have my contest winner pattern forever. I love the pumpkin masters books, and i have carved almost all of the ones Mimi did, It’s nice to have a fellow lover of pumpkins. Halloween/Samhain is huge in our house, though were in an apartment this year and can’t really decorate. My parents go crazy, we have like 25 tombstones with epitaphs on them that are awsome, as soon as we buy a house, I’m going crazy with it. I also have lots of haloween things in my house all year, It’s kinda par for the course, with me being a witch and all!!!
