I did visit the studio last weekend as planned, but unfortunately I wasn’t able to find the colors/sizes/shapes that I was looking for. It looks like they had already sold off all of the ones that I liked at the pumpkin festival! π That’s OK though…I’m going to look around at some of the local stores that carry those pumpkins, and it’ll be a good opportunity to see what other pumpkins/squash that they make — I think only a small portion of of their stuff was displayed at the pumpkin festival. And there’s always the pumpkin festival next year. π
By the way, the visit to the studio was fun nevertheless. They had a lot of neat stuff on display which wasn’t at the pumpkin festival (vases, etc.) and their garden, which had a lot of pumpkins/squash stashed among the plants, was really pretty. The glass blowing was fun to watch also. If you’re interested, here’s a TV report that ABC did last Thursday. The video shows a lot of the stuff that I saw during my visit — the glass blowing and the garden — and they interview Molly Stone as well.

October 24, 2007 at 12:08 am #628271My in-laws have those ridiculous high output accent lights all over their house and yard, so my husband and I got some real nice theatrical lighting gels to put on them. Everything is now a nice eerie purple! We have a professional fog machine that we’re going to set up and cover the house and yard in fog on Halloween night also. With the purple spotlights, it’ll ‘color’ the fog a deep eerie purple. It’ll be fun. I’ll put on my dragon costume to hand out candy. I’ll get photos if I can!

yes, the one in the left corner is eating a smaller pumkin
here’s a Maleficent pumpkin I did for my grandma’s house
I think I might get the fake carvable pumpkins from Michaels this year and try them out…anyone ever use them? Are they any good? I wonder if you can put candles in them….

-J R R TolkienOctober 24, 2007 at 4:50 pm #628275Mimi…it’s a shame you didn’t get the pumpkins you wanted, but as you said there’s always next year.
Nam…all that purple fog sounds cool.
Arlla…Great pumpkins! I saw the fake pumpkins and wondered about them myself. You’ll have to let us know if you carve one.

Hey Arlla,
I’ve done a few fake pumpkins this year. They both harder and easier to carve, if that makes any sense π They have a thinner “skin” than real pumpkins, but it’s a high density foam, so sometimes a bit harder to cut.
And NO candles in them, they will melt/catch fire. I use those little LED tealights in them and it works just fine! πJust curious, what do people use to carve their pumpkins? I’ve used a steak knife and and exacto knife. I’ve tried those Pumpkin carving kits but find the blades are to soft and flexible and I always destroy them.
October 24, 2007 at 9:41 pm #628277Wow Arlla. Those pumpikins are fantastic! I allways try to do things like that and it comes out horrible.
I would help but I am just to tired to get out of bed today~
Engaged to a WeaselOctober 25, 2007 at 1:15 am #628278WONDERFUL PUMPKINS AND DECORATIONS EVERYONE
Well since very few here seemed to know who Barbara Stanwyck was then I’m not sure if you will know this years entry by me. I will be Mae West this year. I have never attempted her yet so it will be interesting to see how she comes out. I do not want to shave my chest unless I HAVE to, it’s such a pain when it grows back and starts itching. I found a male body suit on line today so I hope it gets here in time. It’s coming from Conn to CA priority mail so I’m wishing for the bestOctober 25, 2007 at 4:24 am #628279foxfeather wrote:Hey Arlla,

There are some really talented pumpkin carvers in this group! I never got past the triangle-eyes-nose-and-big-toothy-mouth level of carving (think Charlie Brown Halloween Special). π Seeing what people here have created with their pumpkins is quite impressive! π
