Is there a such thing as…

    silver interference?

What kind of mask works well, and does it only work on the eyes? could you put it on the gypsum, and will it peel the acrylic with it when you peel it off?

Silver is generally a metallic paint, as the small particles are metallic in nature. Interference refers to the refraction of light waves within the paint to alter the color we see, usually between two colors. This is caused by mica particles in the paint, most often.

Masks: You can use liquid frisket, or a product designed for taxidermy eyes. It may or may not peel acrylic paint off with it if applied over acrylic paint. There is no way for me to say for sure because there are so many different brands of paint and so many different brands of frisket masking fluid. They may all interact with each other differently. The only way to know is to test it at home (maybe on a Muse?).
I will say that you MUST allow your acrylic to dry completely 100% before applying frisket and then you must allow the frisket to 100% dry before applying any more paint or anything over top, for best results.
Note that applying inexpensive acrylic or acrylic that has been thinned with water means that the polymer bonds to the gypsum are not as strong, and paint applied in this way is MORE likely to get lifted with a frisket mask than a high quality paint applied without water thinning.
