I’m one of those people who loves the look of really old dragons like your brown, Ravenseye. She is definitely real and a great find! I have an old brown mum of similar vintage, and she’s one of my prized pieces.
The sculpt detailing on these very old dragons is finer than it is on the newer dragons–if yours is like mine, she’ll have delicate patterns of grooves on many of her large scales. I also like how the paint has a more textured appearance. While the dragons currently being produced are beautiful with their mirror-smooth scales and refined paint transitions, the texturing on the old ones makes them look just that bit more like a living creature. I have an old brown mother dragon just like yours! No pad, just stamped. You might also notice that with the older mother, the first dorsal scale after her wings is raised instead of smoothed down with the rest of them. If you look at a newer mother, you can see that at some point, the mold was changed and they all now have that scale folded down against the spine. I like my old brown much better than the newer brown.
That is a nice old dragon for sure. You could probably just fill the chips in yourself and try mixing some acrylic paint to match. See the thread on repairs for advice and ideas of how to do that. Just watch, you will soon get hooked on collecting more of these wonderful pieces!
