Hopefully this is in the right place.
But, I would like to take a moment to talk about postage.I live in Australia, and for those who don’t know Australia does not offer a fragile postage option. So even if a package is labeled within an inch of life it can and will often just be ignored.
Double boxing has saved the life of a couple of pieces which arrived at my place this week.
First:
I had to pick this one up from my local post office. Saddly the box looked like it had been used to play soccerSecond:
Was found inside my gate today, however… it’s location indicated it had been droped or thrown over. When I opened the gate the package was pushed out of the way by the swing. It was also upside down when I found it.DREAM/GRAIL POAD = #9 of the 2021 Spring Young GB

Pieces arrived perfectly safe!! The worst fate they meet was being sniffed by my cat. XD
Outside of the boxes looking like crap the interior boxes and the pieces arrived fine. One was a gb y.poad and the other a gb fat cat. All safely put away in a glass cabinet now. Next to my red-tail cockatoo feathers.

Usually packages have better luck than this as they are couriered because they won’t fit in mail boxes. Then if someone is not home they go to the post office to wait for pick up. The little fat cat had the worse journey as he was tossed over my fence. The Poad had just the dented box. And while both are fine I would rather use the experience to warn others, just in case. Wrap breakables well!!

(Super silly question, but what are those feathers beside the cat and poad?)
Finding happiness again.
May 6, 2016 at 6:10 am #944977Safe packing has saved a few things no doubt!
^^ the feathers are tail feathers from a local red-tail cockatoo flock. I think the y are nassos (sp?) The striped ones are from the female, whereas the soild one is from the male. One of the joys of living in Australia

Nearly all red-tails are endangered too. The local forrest red-tail, or Nasso (sp?) Particularly so. These feathers are naturally found ^^; I volunteer at a local RDA (riding for the disabled association) and there is a flock of red-tails that come through frequently. Been looking on and off for a few years and managed these 3 this year 🙂
Not sure what the legality of posting them would be. Australia is not big on keeping animal parts… ie it’s actually illegal to keep bones such as skulls. I know this because I do drawing/art in my spare time and they would be an awesome reference. Of course that is not even touching/looking into the possible customs issues

Illegal to keep skulls of native animals? Or even non-native species?
May 6, 2016 at 7:39 pm #945003It’s definitely illegal to keep native skulls. I used to think it was also non-native… but I know a number of people who have horse skulls in particular. Regardless it is definitely something I would look into again before making such an investment. I would imagine getting them through customs would be a pain all of its own
