I didnt mean for you to take down the pics π I just hope people would use common sense with their children and dogs. Situations like the one pictured are what give certain breeds a bad name, people just not using their heads. I love Gage, and Ruffian and Tonka, and while I doubt they would ever hurt Alex, I dont *know* it would never happen, no one does, they are after all animals. This is the same reason Alex is not allowed to walk the dogs alone, and he is never allowed to walk Gage ever, I have seen kids drug half way across the park by 60lb labs because their parents are morons. Leashed or not if your dog attacks because it is not under control it is your fault.
I personally think that those pics were taken a number of years ago, and scanned into a computer, and I guess then it was pretty normal to leave your kids and dogs alone together. I think the biggest difference is that few people had huge dogs as house pets then, as they were considered “outside dogs”.

Same here. I’m all “what’d I miss?”.
July 9, 2008 at 10:19 pm #721426I guess I came late to the party too!
July 9, 2008 at 10:21 pm #721427Thanks Necron, I decided to take them down because people didn’t like them, and seemed to be getting upset, but I thought they were cute too. Maybe it’s because I’ve been around huge dogs my whole life, and they were nothing but sweet and loving to us kids.
Sometimes a picture can seem to be wrong, or it may look like something it’s not. Here are some pics of my American Bulldog, Keely, licking Chloes feet and legs. One of the pictures looks like she is biting her leg, one looks like she is nibbling her toes, and another looks like she is growling, but in reality she was being very loving, and she didn’t do any of what the pictures look like she is doing. One leg just happened to slip in Keely’s mouth, and I didn’t even notice it because it was only a split second that it happened, same with the toes. She treats Chloe with so much care, it’s surprising. The whole time Chloe was acting happy and she didn’t seem to mind. She actually likes it when Keely licks her feet.
July 9, 2008 at 10:23 pm #721428It was a series of photos of a Neopolitan mastiff sniffing a baby and then laying on her. The last picture was really cute with the dog laying so the baby was under the front leg. They were cute but possibly not the brightest thing the parents ever did.
July 9, 2008 at 10:25 pm #721429Well…I decided to post this up again because I want other’s input, and the encouragement of Necron helped too!

July 9, 2008 at 10:36 pm #721431There is a huge difference with what you dog is doing and what the Neo is doing though. You AB, love them BTW I hope they get CanKC acceptance soon, is licking you girls feet, she is not laying on you child, and is displaying very submissive behavior, licking in itself is submissive, she is laying down, not standing over Chloe. It is very clear by her actions that she views your daughter as a higher pack member, and is showing respect, that is not what that Neo was doing in any way. If Keely stood up and started to rub her body on to Chloe and roll on her, would you stand there with the camera or stop her?

What is Neo, and what is AB? I was once told that when a female dog (especially a spayed one) lays like that to a baby, that she is being motherly and protective. I know that my mother-in-law freaked when she saw these pics of Keely and Chloe because she thought that Keely was biting her.

Neo = Neopolitan mastiff, AB = American Bulldog.
July 9, 2008 at 10:57 pm #721434The first pics are just terrifying for me. π― The second ones bother me slightly, but we have a “no mouthing” rule with Shadow….so I’m biased. Not trying to critisize…I’m just a paranoid momma. π

Yeah, I let her lick her feet now because Chloe doesn’t put them in her mouth yet, but once she does, my AB won’t be allowed to lick her feet because dogs have dirrty mouths!
July 9, 2008 at 11:38 pm #721436those are funny , ill have to find my old pics of me and my Doberman. I will also have to get a few shots of Hobo and Alyssa she pretty much man handles him like a drunken wrassler and he just lets her do it , we always give him an out for when he is done .
July 9, 2008 at 11:38 pm #721437With Shadow it’s more a issue of personal space…I want him to respect the personal space of kids..no matter how small..because on our walks it’s all too often we encounter small children who are terrified of dogs. I dont want him accidentally knocking them over or mouthing on a kid that’s been severely bitten before. The last thing I’d want is him to enforce a child’s fear, even unintentionally. He can be intimidating to little kids since he’s 90 lbs of dog. π There’s one little girl that took a week before she’d touch him, and even then that was with him sitting, facing me, so the little girl felt safe touching his back..she cried if he even looked at her. I guess I want Shadow to be….a….hmm…..ambassador for dogs I guess….so I’m stricter with him π π
