Since I know some of you out there are anime fans, I will pose this question to you all, or anyone who knows someone and might know the answer. I like to buy my anime imported, but some of the series (like Bleach or Fushigi Yugi) I’ve been wanting to get come in two options: FX or MI. I believe FX and MI are two different distributors or production companies. Is there a difference in the quality between the two? I’ve gotten some, like Ouran High School Hosts Club with excellent quality (just region free) from Japan, but they were through a different company. Any ideas or insight?
February 21, 2008 at 12:22 am #667805I wish I could help answer your question. The only anime that I have ever imported was two series that hadn’t been released in the US and one of those sets I later gave to a friend when it was officially released in the U.S. and I bought the licensed version. I have no clue who did the one set I still have.
February 21, 2008 at 1:06 am #667806I import a LOT of anime, since I won’t watch any of it in english… but to be honest, I don’t know what “FX” or “MI” is… so I’m afraid I couldn’t help you on that 🙁

This is what I’m running into, just to give you an idea. I’ve ordered from them before, but now there are multiple choices for the same series, and I’m like, uhhh…. which one? 😕

I just sent an inquiry. Not sure what kind of answer I’ll get. Was kind of looking for a non-biased opinion, just in case there is a difference in quality or something, but *shrug* I guess I’ll find out 🙂

Yeah, I just took a closer look at the website. Hopefully you’ll get an answer. It’s strange that they don’t have a customer service number though.
February 21, 2008 at 6:23 am #667811Sorry, I can’t help you there. The only series I’ve ever bought imported was Macross 7, because I love it, and because I just don’t see that ever getting licensed in the U.S. Otherwise, I generally stick to licensed copies.
February 29, 2008 at 6:55 pm #667812I finally got an answer back 🙂 The imports are legit, just not through US licensing. Thought I’d post the response to spread the knowledge to those who might like to know as well.
Dear Valued Customer,
If you have noticed, some titles have many different versions, ‘Perfect Collection’ ( FX ), MI, and Domestic release.
The Pefect Collection ( FX ) and the MI is the Import version.
– FX versions are bit pricey than MI, due to better packaging and less defects.
– Some customers prefer FX over MI because FX has better subtitles and quality over MI versions.
– Both FX and MI have same contents, only difference is the price.Domestic Vs. Import
– Domestic version has superior quality ( audio / visual / subtitle ) over Import versions. Also less defective.
– Domestic versions have less episodes per disc than Import versions.
– Domestic versions are far more expensive than Import versions.
– Domestic versions are great choice for Anime Collectors or Anime library.
– Import versions are most suitable for those who want to enjoy anime without sacrificing your wallet. ^^ Import version is rather enjoyable if you do not mind occasional spelling errors / grammatical errors. Some Import titles have horrific subtitles.English dubbing on all 3 versions ( FX, MI, and Domestic ) are almost identical. We have not received any complaints about English dubbing quality.
