That’s very helpful, thanks. So from what you mentioned, ~40cm depth (~16″) seems to be good.
I was thinking of getting a glass bookshelf ~ 3 ft. wide x 3 ft tall that looks like this, but I wasn’t sure how deep to make the shelves. Do you think 16″ or 14″ deep would be better for a shelf like that?
March 21, 2007 at 4:47 am #552085Definately go 16″. Otherwise your larger pieces, like emperors and SK’s will overpower the shelf.
March 21, 2007 at 7:08 am #552086WOW That is so cool! I *LOVE* Ikea too 🙂 I’m waiting for them to get a particular shelf in stock, and then I’m poping down to get a new home for my Windstones too. Congrats on the awesome AND efficent setup ^_^

Thanks to both of you for the advice!By the way — how wide at the base is the SK and the emperor? I don’t have either of these sculpts yet…but may in the future… 🙂

Is that 37cm deep and 43cm wide? I can’t quite tell from the picture…

You got it. It looks square, but it’s really a bit more wide than deep.

SK is about 15-16″ at the base? Emperors are about 12-13″? I think? The emp is so big because of the tail….The SK is just BIG!

Thanks! By the way, your pictures are a great reference and give me a really good idea of how the pieces will look on a shelf that wide. 😀

15-16″?? Wow, that’s big! I can see what Phil meant now — it wouldn’t even fit if the shelf was less than 16″ wide.
Edit: I was just looking at the SK pictures in the gallery and noticed that the SK looks like its about twice as tall as it is wide. Since its supposed to be 17.5 inches tall, wouldn’t the base be ~8-9 inches wide? Just wanted to doublecheck…
March 22, 2007 at 8:50 pm #552094Don’t forget the tail snakes around quite a bit. The emperor also gives a bit of that impression, but the base has to be large to stability.

Hmm…I rechecked the Secret Keeper pictures from the last auction and it looks a lot taller than it is wide, no matter what side I look at it from:
From the pictures, it looks like the widest point is ~11″. Maybe someone could confirm if that’s correct…
March 23, 2007 at 11:16 pm #552098The SK auction says she is 12″ wide. From looking at those photos, I’d say she is more long than wide, so I’d guess that she might fit on a 14″ shelve, but probably not comfortably. So Phil’s recommendation of 16″ seems appropriate.
However, I don’t have one to measure myself 🙁
