      Oh… yeah… well.. I would not use acrylics… Problem solved! 😀

Ah, there are different kinds of paints? 😳 Oh, I know you guys are laughing now….So, they aren’t all acrylics? I only know about house paint…Ask me how to paint your bathroom, and I can tell you. There is gonna be a BIG learning curve here, I can see it already

But we DON’T have a tutorial for pastels- only acrylics.

        We will soon! 😀

And also… honestly… I always use a primer… just white spray paint from walmart though. nothing fancy…

Just gives the paint something to cling to… makes them more archival too…

        I dunno… I always primer. ^.^

No… you have acrylics… which are water based…

And oils… which require a LOT more cleanup than I’m willing to deal with… they are oil based…

          And then water colors. 😀

Someone did a water color PYO…looked neat. 😀 I might try one one day!

But I’d stick with acrylics first off…

Go to Michael’s and get the craft paints… .89 a tube… they’ll get you started! 😀 then graduate to other, more expensive brands from tehre! 😀

Thank you SO MUCH for saying it’s okay to use cheap paint and it won’t be a totaly flop (not that anyone else has said DON’T use cheap paint or it’ll be a total flop but still…)!! I’ve been killing myself over the “must use Golden, must afford expensive paint” idea that it’s nice to know something that costs a buck can still be beautiful

I’ve used a lot of the cheap stuff. Better stuff can make a difference, but cheap stuff works well enough for most things.

Just avoid Delta Cream Coat. That can be okay, but some colors are EVIL!

              😆

Though I like Golden and Liquitex etc… the other paints DO work just as well…

they might not be AS archival as expensive paints… but they serve their purpose. 😀

Heck… most of the acrylics I use in my horses are the cheepy stuff… I only use the good stuff on my horses… or if I only have the color I want in them. ^.^

granted… the more expensive the paint… the easier it is to work with too… I often find that the Creamcoat, Apple Barrel and other cheepy paints dry LIGHTNING fast… which can be VERy annoying. 😛

I use Delta Cream Coat among others. Its not bad. Frozen hates it, though! 😆

I’d say, of the cheap craft paints, that Folk Art is the best. That’s what I’ve used the most anyhow.

Though I tend to mostly use the Reaper miniatures paints. I don’t do mini painting much any more, so I might as well…

UGH that stuff is way overpriced. 😯 then again if you have it… might as well use it. 😀

I have some reaper minis painted!I should take pics of them! 😀 a couple of my characters… and a couple unicorns. 😀

Yeah it’s expensive. But I bought a MASSIVE set of the stuff fairly cheap on ebay, and the one thing that is SO very handy is I have 50+ colors, so I almost never have to mix anything! It’s already ready to go.

Also, it goes on so very thin, so you don’t lose any detail, and yet manages to be opaque enough that you don’t need a million coats, one or two is usually plenty. For that I don’t mind the extra cost. I probably paid less for them than I would for an equivalent volume of golden paints.

                        Hum… good point…

well if they go on thin… but opaque they do sound good… interesting…

I might have to cruise ebay for some. ^.^ I just don’t want to pay the gamer store prices! ::hee hee::

Happy painting! (And no, you don’t have to use expensive paint! Use whatever you want! We just had to recommend the kind that we found worked best- other paints can work well too!!)
