Aww, I’m sorry to hear about your cat. Losing a pet is terrible. 🙁
I’ll check out your PYO thread. I love blue! 🙂
October 7, 2015 at 2:38 am #935558So I originally didn’t think I’d do antiquing, because I was so scared to mess her up, but after seeing how great others’ PYOs look with antiquing I’m determined to try.
I have black paint and retarder. Do you guys think that would look ok on her, or should I find that special antiquing medium?

I know for antiquing that some people just use a darker shade of the colour they used instead of black so you could use a darker grey on silver or darker blue on blue maybe or maybe black all over but you would want to clear coat it first just in case you don’t like the effect so you can wipe it off without all the paint underneath coming off. If you need to do another coat of paint or blending first I would say finish that, then clear coat it and let it dry a day and then try antiquing. You can use watered down paint or the retarder or both, brush it on a section going up the scales to get in the cracks, leave it to dry a bit maybe 30 seconds or a minute and then wipe with a damp cloth (not too wet) going down the scales so the paint stays in the cracks. If too much comes off then do it again until it’s darker and let it dry. If you do antiquing and don’t like it, you should be able to wipe all of it off. Then when it’s all done, clear coat it again and let in dry another day. You can experiment with different colours to see what looks good and maybe others here have more tips about antiquing too.
Looking for rainbow or pink & teal grab bags!

Thanks Kim! I think I’m going to go for the black antiquing since that can be done, as I’m painting this in my friends’ wedding colors and black and green are for the groom. Thanks for the advice! I’m going to clear coat today. I have some Krylon UV-Resistant Clear Acrylic Coating in gloss, so I hope it turns out okay. 😀
