Why are they keeping you at work if you’re not busy enough to stay off the computer? 😆

That would be a historian of some type. We have one at the local history museum in town. He helped us to do research on our house to determine the year it was built (1889, btw).
Thanks. I was trying to do some research on what it was called. Everyone told me it was someone who designed buildings (can’t think of the word).April 12, 2007 at 6:56 pm #560332emerald212 wrote:Yeah, you can tell this sucker is old too. There’s big granite blocks for walls in the basement and it has an old cistern. There are three chimneys, and two of them are decorative, but I’m sure they were used for heating rooms at one time. We got a plaque that says our house was built in 1889 after we did the research on it, and a nice certificate commemorating the house as being over 100 years old. That’s kind of a big thing in America.
I’m sure there are a lot older houses in Europe. When I was in England I stayed in an 800 year old castle. It was just hard for me to imagine it being that old. Most of the town was older than my house, so it was an amazing thing to think about.
There are a lot of older houses/buildings in Europe. I think that is the coolest.April 12, 2007 at 8:38 pm #560333Greater Basilisk wrote:Why are they keeping you at work if you’re not busy enough to stay off the computer? 😆
Haha… I am a supervisor 😉 All I do is walk in the hangar every once in a while and make sure everything is going correctly… and I order pizza so the kiddies can eat… and then get right back to work! *Cracks whip* I am home now. And ready for bed!

I thought Ski ran across a particularly good-tasting beer.

Hmm, it might be that. Is that where they learn graphic design? I love rocks and old stuff, so a historian sounds about correct.April 12, 2007 at 10:30 pm #560338If I could have any job, I’d like to be a successful SciFi/Fantasy author. Note the word “successful”. 😆

It’s a type of applied anthropologist, but I don’t think it has a specific name other than some kind of historian. I just think the anthropology (cultural) qualified me to do it. It’s been a couple years, so I don’t remember as many of the details as I wish I did. I just remember being told about it.

April 13, 2007 at 1:19 pm #560343Ski goes to work on her free day. Isn’t way too beautiful to be indoors?
(Says me sitting here chatting and finishing up Zephyrus in my room. But oh well. I just got back from a horse ride.)May 12, 2007 at 10:17 am #560344I always wanted to be an astronaut when I was a kid. oh well.
I had my almost-dream job for several years- I was vet tech at a private low-kill animal shelter. It was low budget also, so I was on my own, essentially vet as well as tech, cruelty investigator, pooper scooper, pickups and delivery since i had a truck, adoptions… The pay sucked, no benefits, no money meant the facility always needed lots of help, but I was able to survive (got a second job bartending towards the end). The shelter was taken over by a well funded high-kill humane society from the next county over; they ditched the old employees. (low-kill is the lowest profit way to run a shelter, BTW, and guarantees you won’t get help from organizations like HSUS)
I’d love to have my old job back, although hopefully without the funding issues. And with insurance.
