So my SO is getting kind of tired of hearing me babble on about this, and I figure maybe I should bring the topic somewhere else and bother somebody other than him with it! Poor guy. This has been the *only* thing on my mind for weeks. I find myself thinking about it in the shower, when I’m trying to sleep, while doing my grocery shopping, I am just completely obsessed!
See, I’m going to be running a campaign on kickstarter next week, so I can get the funds together to have a batch of resin dragons cast. I hope. If they approve it. If something doesn’t delay it. There’s no reason they shouldn’t approve it, it’s my third one and the first two were fine, so this one should be fine too. It’s just that waiting for them to get back to me is driving me nuts!
What’s also driving me nuts is waiting for it to start in general. I couldn’t start this one until I finished my last one. I finally got that wrapped up completely on Friday, but I’ve been planning this one for weeks, even months beforehand, and the closer I get, the crazier I get about it!
I’ve written and re-written and scrapped and written again all the stuff that’s going into it. I’ve re-structured it I don’t even know how many times. I’ve taken photos and then taken new photos and then realized I was missing something and taken more photos.
I even wounded myself prepping for it, when I realized I’d forgotten to get a photo of the plain cast pieces before they were painted, so I had to cast a new one, and while trimming the flash off it with an x-acto I slipped and cut my thumb so badly I had to go in to the ER to get it fixed up.
So I’ve bled for this thing! And there’s still four whole days left before it starts, and then a MONTH of it running before I can call the promotion part over, and I am already kind of crazy, but I am going to go completely insane during that time! Especially since I REALLY want this one to be a success. My first one did pretty well, but my second one only just scraped by, it was kind of disappointing, and I’d really love it if this one was a HUGE, awesome, big, amazing success. I want to put in every possible effort I can to make it that way! Which is why this time I’ve spent hours and hours and hours researching and reading and planning, as well as putting everything I could into a really good sculpture and trying to have some really good backer rewards and things. But there’s no way to know how big of a success it’ll be until it’s finished in December!
Yeah. Anyway. Hopefully I can babble on here about it without annoying anybody too much.
November 10, 2013 at 2:52 am #905104Can you explain kickstarter a bit to me. I have thought about starting one for a project i am doing but when i got on they want a ton of info on my “buisiness” and whether i can leagally charge tax blahblah..I have an etsy, but am not registered as a business or anything, i live in idaho, and do buisiness on line, so i cannot do any of that without a physical commercial location here. How does this all work, and can you use paypal instead of amazon, who wants to verify all this nonexistant info?

I’m trying to remember exactly what they asked me, but I’m pretty sure I signed up as an individual (not a business) and just used my existing Amazon customer account, so they only wanted to know a couple more things. I still had to hammer out a bug, since they initially said I didn’t exist, but that seems to have been a screwup over my maiden name vs. my married name, since I signed up to Amazon when I was still single.
November 10, 2013 at 3:11 am #905106Oh, if you don’t want to deal with Amazon, you can use Indiegogo instead, they’re a lot like Kickstarter, though a little less popular, but they use paypal.
November 10, 2013 at 12:41 pm #905109Ouch, your poor thumb! I hope all the bleeding, stress, and preparation is worth it, and it pays off in spades. Wishing you the best! 🙂
November 10, 2013 at 5:53 pm #905118Good luck! Hope your thumb is feeling better too!

November 11, 2013 at 4:10 pm #905153I hear you on the waiting thing–I’ve done that, am doing that now and will always have something come up in my life to do it again! It does drive you nuts J) and I do understand that it’s constantly on your mind. I do hope things work out for you and by the end of December it will all be history.
Go ahead and rant here–that’s what I love about this forum, you can rant and get it out of your system–it does help. The people here are usually very understanding and supportive and you don’t have to drive your SO nuts with it–so it’s also a relationship saver!
Keeping my fingers crossed for you!
November 11, 2013 at 11:12 pm #905177I just got the e-mail from them, and I’ve been approved. *does a little dance* So yay! I still have to tweak a few things, and get a couple of extra pictures uploaded (and part of me kind of wants to make a video, but I know nothing whatsoever about video editing, so it would almost certainly look awful, so I probably shouldn’t.)
I’ll be launching it either tomorrow or the next day. 😀 I am so stoked!
November 12, 2013 at 11:56 pm #905196And it’s launched! Heeee! So excited! I already have one backer and everything!

November 13, 2013 at 1:29 am #905198Thanks! I am so hyper right now I could just explode! I am running my feet off trying to promote it (though I’m also trying to avoid being a hideous spammer, which makes it harder work.) So far it looks like it’s doing pretty good though. *crosses fingers*
November 16, 2013 at 5:52 am #905280It’s been stuck at the same spot all day today. No new backers at all. And I don’t have much else I can do to promote it right now. *sigh* And the “sidekick” site that claims to predict if campaigns will succeed or fail is saying I have a 50% chance of funding. Bleh.
November 16, 2013 at 10:08 am #905283Did you post the links on the Windstones and Windstone Editions facebook page for people to see?
Looking for rainbow or pink & teal grab bags!
November 16, 2013 at 3:26 pm #905285I’m sure you’ll make it! I’ve been keeping an eye on your project as well. I plan to do something early next month when I have a ‘new’ budget. Does my signature look familiar? That link you sent me for the sale of that griffin–well, that’s where my money went this month but I feel it went to a good cause! Isn’t he cute?
