Yep! π I agree that having a gun and a kid in the same house is a rather risky combo. But I have to say that we include the youngest in all our practicing and buying and discussions, keeping him well-informed. He has learned how to handle a gun properly, though he’s appropriately respectful of them. He’s 8.

My boy is eight, too. I am not so worried now, but when he is older and may want to impress friends or something. It is just scary to think about. I barely let him on roller coasters. π When he goes, I have to go too. That way, if something goes wrong, we will both go down… then he will not be here with no mom and I will not be here with no son. Ridiculous, I know. Guess thats what I get for having only one child. I am too protective.
July 1, 2007 at 6:48 pm #593391Sounds pretty normal to me, but I only have one too! π

Naw. That’s reasonable. And anyway, if you don’t shoot for sport, you don’t really need one. Burglars won’t last long in your house, I’ll bet. π
July 2, 2007 at 4:10 am #593393Nope. My dogs will lick their skin off then drown them in slobber… If you can think of a more painful way to go, you are more imaginative than I.
July 2, 2007 at 8:53 pm #593394π Puddles of doggie slobber. They’ll slip and get hurt that way!! π
July 3, 2007 at 3:34 am #593395And sue you for damages. π

For real! Did you hear about the burglar who hurt himself while robbing a house and SUED the home owners?? Ridiculous! π
July 3, 2007 at 9:59 am #593397Did he win? It wouldn’t surprise me!! π

Why do I like guns? No, I wasn’t raised that way. Switzerland is very gun-friendly, but that only helped; it wasn’t responsible. Mom always wanted a girly girl, but I think most of the blame lies with Dad and the brothers. Dad likes them, though he hates to advertise it. I suppose I learned it from him, though he never really encouraged it. Then my brothers caught on and we encourage each other. I think my gun-loving really kicked in when I got a grasp of politics. I’m sure you’ve found out that I’m an awfully politically-minded person. I dislike politics because it always interferes with more than it should (on the grounds of power corrupts), but I believe we need to keep tabs on what the politicians do or they’ll get away with even more. So, guns also a statement for me. Socialists and do-gooders think the world would be a better place without them. Maybe it would. But now that they’ve been invented, every upright citizen should have the right to own one. The criminals will always have them. Outlaw guns and only the outlaws will have guns. Duh. By definition they don’t care what the law says.
(Example England. They completely outlawed guns in 1997. In 1997 (before the law could take effect) there were 4,900 crimes involving guns. In the second half of 2004 and the first half of 2005 (12 months) there were 11,000. Criminals were given a free hand. The same pattern is observed in Canada and Japan and other places that outlaw gun usage.)
Dude, I get carried away on this subject. But the media only presents the negative side of guns with the few spectacular shootings that happen. It sells better than the thousands of bloodless stories every year when citizens defend their goods or lives just by letting the criminal know they’re armed. Ask any criminal what the biggest deterrent is to robbing a particular person or house. The answer is, “Getting shot.” (Scientifically proven, yes.)
I could go on, but if you want irrefutable arguments I can point you to Dr. John R. Lott. Excellent fellow, that.Basically, if it’s mainstream now, whether for politics or history or clothes, I’m probably not in favor of it. But that’s not for rebelliousness’s sake. It’s because society is a rotten mess now – I think.
The “why I like other stuff” is easier to answer. I like dragons because they’re fierce and wild and outside the rules of nature. Just like basilisks and griffins and other mythological animals. Rules are necessary to a degree, but I like things that are outside the unnecessary ones. It’s kind of ahrd to explain.
Another “other stuff” is writing – I do that that for one, I can argue out a matter with myself. I do research on a subject and discuss it with Mom, but then I put two conflicting views into two characters’ mouths and I can really see the pro and con on an equal level. Also, when I write I can fix what I think needs fixing. Authors have a lot of liberty. π
And a final “other stuff” is drawing – I draw so I can see what I’m talking about, especially when it comes to mythological critters. But I need so much more practice.Goals in life? Ultimately I want to get married and have kids. And I wish it wouldn’t take forever either, because I don’t want to be stuck in real estate for too long. It’s office work and not for me. I want to be a stay at home Mom. But I haven’t found anybody yet… π
How many Windstones do I want to own? One of each in every sculpt and every color. How many will I realistically own? If I keep this up, half of that. π
Sorry about the length of all that. It’s human nature to like talking about one’s self. π³
lol…I guess this is one of the threads I was talking about, but the other one was about my sister. πAnd Star is correct, don’t worry about talking so much, we find you interesting. I like dragons the same reason you like them. They are different and not real in real life. They are something to think about and take my mind out of reality before I have to step back into it. I find that when I do have time to write, then I can express myself more clear to people. I don’t have to sit and think right then and I can think about the answer/question before I give the answer.
I want to own every sculpt in almost every color. That is my goal before I leave this world.
Don’t worry about getting married and having kids so soon. Explore the world and when the time comes then it will fall into place. -
