I have just found the most STUNNING resin horse I’ve ever seen. This fits my personal ideals of equine beauty in every way. The breed, the pose, the level of detail, everything about it is perfect.
It’s also sold out, of course. *sniffles* So sad! Had it not been sold out, I think I would have bought one this second. (Nevermind that might mean I can’t get a mother griffin if they’re released too soon, I’d have done it anyhow.)

December 26, 2006 at 8:24 am #520039It doesn’t look wrong to me…. *blinks, eyes it*
December 26, 2006 at 8:26 am #520040I’ll show it to Mom when she gets up, since she’s the expert on horse anatomy, but I’m pretty sure that in real life the joint can’t bend that sharply. Anyway, if it were bent back like I think is right, the horse would probably have trouble balancing…
December 26, 2006 at 8:28 am #520041Yeah. *nods* I can’t picture that working at all with the right foot bent back. The full weight of the horse would be just on the one left foot… (I’m interested to see what the response is. That angle is a bit sharp, but to me it looks okay. But then I’m hardly an expert.)
December 26, 2006 at 8:56 am #520042Well, I just asked her. Turns out the hoof is actually all right – it’s called “hyper-extension.” Friesians tend to have that lanky look. But, the fetlock bone is too long and the feathers should go all the way down to the hoof. Plus, the tendons in the legs aren’t quite right. Mom knew the artist; says she’s pretty famous.
Any way, it’s still a very pretty sculpt.December 26, 2006 at 9:05 am #520043*chuckles* I suppose nothing is quite perfect. But I still like it!
December 26, 2006 at 9:10 am #520044I can’t see a price anywhere. How much would it cost if it weren’t sold out?
December 26, 2006 at 9:13 am #520045$175 for the rough, unpainted resin. Which I feel is a WONDERFUL price for something like that! Given that the far less interesting and realistic Friesian by a practically no-name sculptor I was considering before I saw this one was $150. (I may still end up with that one, it’s quite nice, but it’s a sedate walk, not anything so dynamic, and not nearly so detailed either.)
December 26, 2006 at 9:19 am #520046How big is the sculpt? I assume it’s about Breyer size, and for that, $175 is a very decent price. Would you paint it yourself if you could buy one or just leave it? I assume you’d paint it…

Wow! That is lovely!
December 26, 2006 at 9:24 am #520048It’s a “classic” size. Which I’m trying to pin down, actually. It seems to be slightly smaller than the “traditional” size, but I can’t find anywhere that says in inches.
And yes, I’d probably paint it. I’d also probably sit around dithering for a very long time before daring to do so…
December 26, 2006 at 3:07 pm #520049😆 Do you have any favorite horse colorings? I like buckskins, but that would look funny on a Friesian steed…

I agree with Ski. That is lovely/stunning. I like the horse poses that have the running/wild side to them. -
