Over react much? 0.o
I had never heard of EMT so I immediately thought EBT when I read it… maybe they thought the same thing?
Like, do you accept EBT as payment? If someone asked me that you would get an immediate response out of me that is not so happy. I dunno if that’s what this person thought… that’s the only way I could justify that reaction. If you had am EBT card and were using it to buy Windstones I’d be pretty pissed too! LOL!
Still though, know what the hell you are yelling at someone for before you jump down their throat. What a jerk.

Maybe they thought you were proposing one of those scams, where a scammer sends (bad) overpayment and asks to be refunded the difference which the seller sends in legit money, only to lose both the goods and the money?
It doesn’t excuse their dumb knee-jerk reaction, but it may explain it.
I laughed a little. But I actually feel kinda bad, I hope I haven’t seriously ruined their faith in humanity or something.
Anyone had anything like this happen? I don’t think I’d feel comfortable making the transaction with them regardless anymore, but I’m wondering how I could at least make them feel better.
That’s probably the sweetest thing I’ve read in a week. And more charitable than my reaction would be…
Whether or not you dinged their faith in humanity, you restored a little of mine.
August 1, 2014 at 12:17 am #916887Oh…. and not sure (before everyone has to google it) if EBT is as common in your neck of the woods as it is here. An EBT card is how Welfare is paid in MA. Hence, if someone was buying Windstones with an EBT card I would be pissed off too as they are SUPPOSED to be for people who are too poor to even feed themselves or struggling families with children they need to clothe and feed.
However the reality is I am frequently (VERY frequetly) behind someone in line at the grocery store buying lobsters and filet mignon with EBT while yacking on a top of the line smart phone. I liek to see what they drive just to further torture myself so while loading my 5 bags of groceries into my rusting truck more times then not they are pushing the auto start in their new BMW, Lexus, Benz, or Land Rover *rolls eyes* Yea… that’s Massachusetts, why it’s called Taxachusetts because that’s why I pay 38% of my pay check into taxes is for THAT. *end rant*
Sorry to take over your thread! LOL!

I got a virus on my comuter not long ago that takes a picture of you on your web camera (which totally catches you off gaurd) and says it’s the FBI or the IRS and if you want your computer to be unfrozen you have to send a $250 Blue Dot Card/Green Dot Card to “insert shady address here” My boyfriend’s mother actually sent the money >_< We yelled at her of course Why did she NOT call us first?!
Well… in any case, someone who is that quick to fly off the handle is robably not someone you want to be buying anything from in the first place. You probably just saved yourself a nightmare.

Oh! The EBT cards! I wonder if that is what they thought you meant (I was thinking EMS for shipping). EMT I don’t think is found in the US, but EBT are the welfare/unemployment cards some states use. If the seller thought you were trying to pay with one of those, that would explain the reaction. An over reaction, but a lot of people get really heated about EBT cards being used for things other than what they are supposed to be used for (there is a lot of fraud in their use/misuse). While I wouldn’t react quite so rudely if someone offered to pay with an EBT card, I’d be pretty darn perturbed (to put it very mildly) if someone offered to by a Windstone with one. Some would not react so politely though to such an offer!
If you felt like trying once more, you could maybe try to explain that you meant a bank transfer out of Canada (EMT = electronic money transfer) and didn’t realize it was something not found in the US, that there might have been a misunderstanding and see if maybe they would except something like Paypal or a postal money order instead. Worth trying if you felt comfortable doing so. Up to you, but I’m guessing this was a misunderstanding. Just a thought.
August 1, 2014 at 4:25 am #916906I’ve never heard of EMT bank transfers, so I googled it. Email Money Transfers, something done in Canada. Is that correct?
Yep, that’s it! It is free and there is no middleman fee, since it is just between the banks. The only downside for the buyer is that it is non-refundable.
My hubby uses it all the time, and I have a couple times, but I didn’t realize it might be Canadian-only. I should probably find out.
I use EMT’s all the time as well, a lot easier than using other services such as paypal etc., and a lot cheaper and faster then sending someone a money order or cheque. You must have a special account or a great bank to be able to do it for free though, as I have to pay $1.50 (to my bank) for every one I send or receive. I love it though, just like using your debit card almost, goes right into or comes right out of your account, and its secure to an extent- since they have to know the answer to the security question you provide with the transfer.
Oh, and they had to of misunderstood you to react the way they did… as it makes no sense !
August 1, 2014 at 4:48 am #916910Is the seller in the U.S. or Canada and if Canada, what province? I didn’t know what you meant by EMT either but when I realized you meant an email money transfer, I also use that a lot to either pay people for things or take payments for items I am selling within Canada. It doesn’t work to send to anyone in the U.S. though unfortunately. It is actually safer for the seller as you are not guaranteed they will ship your items so I would be careful if you don’t know the person you send money to. There are so many scammers though on Craig’s List and kijiji that when people asked me if I could ship things I was selling I would also get suspicious. Although if you are shipping within Canada usually you don’t have to worry. They must have just automatically thought you were a scammer without realizing where you were located or what an EMT was. That’s not your fault if they are going to be dumb and assume things without asking.

August 1, 2014 at 4:56 am #916911Wow, even with the way people have found things that /might/ make someone feel uncomfortable, doesn’t explain why they’d go off that bad! I wouldn’t for a moment be worried about you making them feel better. I might have outright asked what I said that called for such a response, more out of curiosity than anything… maybe explained myself some if they replied and found it was a misunderstanding, but from that point, I wouldn’t trust to work with them any further…
August 5, 2014 at 6:36 am #917076Thanks for the kind words, it makes me feel better – I don’t think I could have approached it differently. They are probably just hardwired to think that electronic money is scary and untrustworthy, lol.
If anyone is curious, this was the ad:
http://seattle.craigslist.org/sno/clt/4583375660.htmlJust so you know who to look out for.
I would advise against dealing them personally, unless you can pick it up yourself… If you are comfortable with that. To be honest I don’t think I’d want to meet them in person! :p
